Information on the Linux 2.2.x kernel

You want to use the most recent kernel, since you have a kernel related problem for which a solution has been built into the 2.2.x kernel.

Your SuSE Linux 6.0 is as up to date as possible, and ready to be upgraded to the 2.2.x kernel.

Please note that problems related to kernel versions newer that 2.0.36 are not supported in the context of SuSE 6.0 installation support.

This kernel is released by Linus Torvalds.

There is another another source for current Linux kernels: Alan Cox.
It is his job to accept patches for future kernel versions. He also has his own web page which contains current information on the Linux kernel.

His kernel has the postfix ac, which stands for "Alan Cox", the numbers are sequential.

You should definitly get the following information before installing a Linux 2.2.x kernel:

On this site you will find a link to the ftp directory, were Alan Cox has put his "ac" patches.
If you apply the highest numbered "ac" patch to the apropriate kernel, you will have the most up to date version of the Linux kernel from Alan Cox.
