AucTeX mode and endless loop in Emacs

Symptom:

The GNU Emacs stands still in an endless loop at the setting of 
\begin{equation} ... \end{equation}
or 
\begin{eqnarray} ... \end{eqnarray}
.

Cause:

There is an error in the file /usr/share/emacs/site-lisp/auctex/hilit-LaTeX.el , that leads into an endless loop.

Solution:

Please remove from your file ~/.emacs the three consecutive lines 
  (if window-system
    (add-hook 'after-init-hook '(lambda () (load "auctex/hilit-LaTeX" nil 
t)))
  )
or take from our FTP server or our mailbox the packet ftp://ftp.suse.de/pub/S.u.S.E.-4.2/e1/auctex.tgz, that you can install with YaST instead of the, up to now, packet auctex.
