Adabas D: Distributed databases

Adabas: Version 6.1,10.0

Request:

You want to create a distributed database using Adabas D.

Important : It is obviously mandatory to have a separate licence for every node within the distributed database. The distribution of database is offficially an unsupported feature in version 10.0 .

Procedure:

Please make sure that it is possible to create a connection between the various machines. In order to test this you can use commands like ping or try a telnet session to the distant machines.

Start the RemoteSQL server (x_server start).

Important : Please take care to set the hostname of every single machine that takes part in the distributed database to its fully qualified domain name. Example : The machine Database1 in the domain distributed.database.de must be set to the full domainname using the command hostname Database1.distributed.database.de . If this is not done, an error may occur when establishing the connection during the start-up of the databases. This setting is only necessary during the construction of the databases. Later the original hostname can be restored.

The value of the parameter MAX_SERVERDBS should in addition be set to twice the number of databases taking part in the distribution. E.g. if three databases are taking part, set the parameter to 6 .

It must be taken care that the SYSDBA of every single node has a unique name. Otherwise the corresponding node cannot be included into the distribution of databases !

Distributed databases should not be started using boot scripts. Otherwise problems may occur in certain situations.

xcontrol allows to reconnect a database in the distribution using the menue item Reconnect. Please note that calling Reconnect Copy while the database is already in the distribution leads to a Disconnect !

The menue item Info - Distribution shows information about the current status of the local database and also about the status of the whole distribution :
