What are some good music and sound apps? Where can I find more info?
For playing CD-ROMS:
xplaycd -- X windows interface, quite nice application
cdp -- command line player
cdtool -- command line player, includes ability to be used as a daemon,
program to shuffle play, and ability to query the cddb database
to get track/program listings for a disc.
MANY MORE (Java, X-based, workman, workbone, etc.)
Most of these are available in RPM format, if not, you may have
to find the tarball and make them.... Some are provided with RedHat
5.x on the CD-ROM, or are in the contrib directory at ftp.redhat.com.
For converting sound files:
SOX -- this allows you to convert to/from MANY sound formats
For playing midi files:
playmidi -- ability to play midi files and with playmidi-X11, provides
a nice X interface

vplay -- old wave file player
maplay -- play MPEG audio files

For editing/recording sound
vrec -- link to vplay

guitar tuner, and real cool program
xwave -- clone of Win 3.1 WAVE player (not too stable)
