Fully qualified question (if applicable):

Hey! My RedHat CD didn't come with ssh or PGP and I can't find it on
RedHat's web site. Why not and where is it?

Answer:

Due to export restrictions imposed by the U.S. government, strong
encryption is considered a "munition". Hence, ssh aka "Secure Shell"
and PGP aka "Pretty Good Privacy" is therefore not included on the
RedHat CD's.

Often this means aquiring the source code for the applications and
compiling them yourself- a potentially lengthy and bug ridden process.
There is however another solution:

This site, which is located Amsterdam and is therefore free of the U.S.
export controls (ITAR), provides various programs that include strong
encryption. However, it is important to realize that if you live in the
US it is illegal for your to distribute these files to others outside of
the US. Do yourself a favor, don't make these files available on your
web\ftp site- provide a link if you wish. Also, in countries, it may be
flat out illegal to use strong encryption- you may wish to check if you
have any doubts.

Back to Replay(R) and Company Unlimited(tm)...

All files located in the RedHat section are in RPM format and are
available at no cost. After you have downloaded them, you may install
them in the usual RPM way with:

rpm -ivh <filename>

or upgrade with:

rpm -Uvh <filename>

You may also wish to check the signature of the file to make sure that it
has not been tampered with:

rpm --checksig <filename>

Finally, there isn't to the best of my knowledge a RPM for PGP 5.0 for
Linux. PGP does apparently have plans to release 5.0 for Linux in the
future however.
