Question:

I am upgrading from 5.1 to 5.2/Intel and I get a signal 11 and my 
installation stops.

Answer:

This could be 1 of several things:
1)  You need to rebuild your RPM database in the original distribution
    (see the RedHat FAQ).
2)  You have a hardware problem (see the RedHat FAQ and the Signal 11 FAQ).
3)  You have a problem with your partitions.  

On my machine, I had created a symbolic link from /var/tmp to /usr/var/tmp.
When I tried to install, the software would install 3-4 packages, then 
crash with a signal 11.  Restoring the original /var/tmp fixed the
problem.
