INTRODUCTION

Sample configuration files for the diald-control package that have
diald control ppp0. These files assume you are using a metered phone
service, a charge for each unit of time during which there is a phone
connection.

To get straight to having diald automatically bring ppp0 up and down,
just configure ppp0 in the redhat control panel, install this package
and reboot. You may want to review the values in
/etc/sysconfig/dialdcfg and
/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/dialdcfg-ppp0 and read the tips section
in the README of the diald-config package.

If you use this package, I'd like to hear from you.

TIPS

The default configuration installed by this package is designed for
metered phone service, a charge for each unit of time during which
there is a phone connection. The diald package itself comes with a
configuration oriented towards metered service. There is also a
companion package, diald-config-unmetered which is a configuration for
unmetered phone service.

You may want to look up and use the diald directives "impulse" and
"restrict". At the moment there's no support for them in this
package.

The difference between this metered configuration and the original
diald configuration is that the original includes a hack around a bug
in SCO telnet, provision for running netbios over the link, and
ignores dns traffic. If you like, you can set flags to cause these
differences to go away.

Although the supplied configurations assume you do not run a
nameserver, you probably should run at least a caching nameserver for
better performance. (But see the BUGS file for diald-config re
failure of initial tcp connection.)
