nitftopnm reads a file in National Imagery Transmission Format, and
writes a portable anymap. If the input is grayscale, the output is a
"rawbits" pgm (portable graymap) file. If the input is color, the
output is a "rawbits" ppm (portable pixmap) file.

This program understands only a few of the many variations allowed by
the NITF documentation. If you should extend it to cover some of the
other kinds of NITF files, I would appreciate patches. Otherwise, if
you can send me a sample file, I might decide to extend it myself. I
would also be interested in any updates to the MIL-STD, assuming of
course that they are freely available.

For more information, see the generic installation instructions
(INSTALL) and the manual page (nitftopnm.1).

Comments are welcome.
