$README for meny v0.1 by Luke Th. Bullock (lucc@powertech.no)
1. Why another console menu?
There are already many menu systems available, so why one more?
Well, one always has wishes for how programs should look, and
what they should do. Here at the galleri (anart.no) I have had
trouble getting Win95 and Mac users to use programs available
on the server because Unix scares them and they get lost.
One person once said to me "It's only numbers and letters!",
and another said "How can you tell one screen from the other?".
Explaining, or even teaching them the basics dosen't help much
as they forget how to login and read mail as soon as I turn my
back. After explaing a zillion times, it's not worth it anymore.
2. What it does
meny (Alge Menu System) is pretty much a standard dialog interface,
with a main menu where one navigates with the arrow keys. What I
have done to make it "different" is add an information bar at the
top, much like the one the "GIT" package uses, with hostname,
login name, tty and date. All the needed programs can be found on
the main menu, and programs that require arguments have a new
screen pop up with a "prompt" in the usual dialog style :)
If the user regrets, pressing ESC will bring them back to the
main menu or print a message to the screen.
3. Additional files
   3.a color.h
color.h is an alternativ color file for dialog v0.6z that makes
the "GUI" look alot more attractiv. Get the source for dialog
from any sunsite mirror and recompile it with this file, and
believe me, it is a great improvement. AUTHOR: Savio Lam
   3.b unixhelp.txt
This is a list of UNIX commands originally from Hamline but was
so outdated (1991) that I rewrote most of it, and added a large
amount of information. Alge Menu System expects it to be in
/usr/doc, but you can change this in the script if you want it
   elsewhere.
4. The rest
Alge Menu System is freeware, do whatever you like with it.
If you are interested in scripting for the Shell, take a look
at my pages at http://home.powertech.no/lucc/linux/ where I
have put up examples and links to tutorials, all freeware.
Thank you for taking the time to read this!
