Welcome to DBS Server Release 0.3!

The 0.3 Release splits "dbs_server" core api and integration server from
the application services delivered through the dbs_server (dbs_keyterm).
The Key Terminal service is now found in a seperate project tree!

Copyrights and such

The DBS Telephony Server IS free software (or "open source", if you must).
DBS Telephony Server licensed by Tycho Softworks under the terms of the
GNU GPL. Please review the "COPYING" file for further details.

What is DBS Server?

If you have a Panasonic DBS telephone system equipped with an API port or
API card, then this package provides a server for operating the API
protocol over the serial link and a network interface layer and API for
using DBS services in other applications. Applications for DBS Server
include ACD call control, telephone set control, and anything else
that can be envisions. The API port allows a PC to directly route calls,
control the display of DBS display telephones, and trap telephone input
as if the telephone were a key terminal.

Who can use it?

Anyone with a DBS Telephone system with an API port can use it. This
software was developed under Linux but should compile and build fine
under most UNIX operating systems, such as FreeBSD. No support is
contemplated at this time for a Win32 or Windows specific implimentation.
Although the core server is functional, this initial release is entirely
for testing, and should be considered for expairemental use only.

How do I build it?

From the main directory of the tar file, enter 'config'. This should
generate a complete configuration for your host. Then type "make". This
expairemental release was not deemed suitable for RPM packaging as yet,
and so is supplied in .tar.gz format only.

How do I use it?

There is a FAQ being written that explains how to activate the DBS
API services on a Panasonic DBS telephone system. That FAQ and this
README will eventually be merged. For now, see the attached "letter.faq"
included with this initial release. You will also need to copy the
"dbs.conf" file from the etc directory to /etc and edit it appropriately.

Also see the README for keyterm, which describes how to setup the "*8"
key. This is a special key that, when programmed on a button on a digital
station, will always create an API message from that phone. This is used
to activate the keyterm server for that station.
