This is the readme file for djetool (HP Deskjet Tool), an utility for
configuring printing options for newer deskjets.

REQUIREMENTS
____________

- HPDJ patch for ghostscript. This excellent patch was written by
Martin Lottermoser. You can get it at ftp://ftp.pdb.sni.de/pub/utilities/misc/
Follow the instructions and install ghostscript compiled with the patch.

- QT developement kit v1.3 or better.
  Get it from http://www.troll.no.

INSTALLATION
____________

1. check Makefile, config.h and lpfilter
2. type "make"
3. type "make install" (in /usr/local/djetool by default)

USING DJETOOL
_____________

I've included a simple filter and printcap file. You can use this files or just
look how they work with hpdj.cnf. If you wan't to use them do the following:

mv /etc/printcap /etc/printcap.old
cp printcap /etc
cp lpfilter /usr/local/bin

If you have some experience with these filters you can adapt your own of
course.
Before printing run 'djetool' and configure printing options. The program will
write options to hpdj.cnf which is read by lpfilter. At this time program
doesn't care which printer model is selected. (for example: if you have
deskjet 690C you can't print in colors with resolution 600x600, however the
program allows selecting this combination).
If the model of your deskjet isn't listed choose 'unspec'.

Please read documentation which comes with hpdj patch about printing options.
