FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions about the LTC project
	Written by Dennis Heltzel (dheltzel@locke.ccil.org)

1) What is the purpose of this FAQ ?
This FAQ is designed to provide answers to Frequently Asked Questions about the LTC project. As I am just now releasing this, no questions at all have been asked yet, so this is really a "shot in the dark". It might be more accurate to say that these are the best answers I have now to questions that I want to answer.

2) What is the purpose of the LTC project ?
I set out to "duplicate" the functionality of the various Network Computers that my company used for an NC Pilot project on which I was the technical lead. We abandoned the pilot because none of the companies could supply a stable Hardware/Software combination, and because configuring those proprietary boxes was too painful. After some experimentation, I alter the design goals (see below) to provide a system with a TCO (Total Cost of Ownership) approaching that of a dumb terminal but with greater functionality.

3) Hasn't something like this been done before ?
I haven't found anything, free or commercial that is aligned to the goals that I have for this. If anyone knows of something, by all means tell me.

4) What are the main design goals ?
I am *not* trying to replace desktop PC's.
I am hoping to provide a low-cost upgrade for dumb terminals.

	- Low TCO, hopefully very close to the TCO of a dumb terminal
	- Flexible configuration, either done locally or remotely
	- Efficient use of network bandwidth (this is a weakness of X-terminals, IMO)
	- Support of terminal emulation for basic business functions
	- Web Browsing capability
	- Printing to local or network printers

5) Can I suggest some improvements or enhancements ?
Certainly! Though, because this is not my "real job", I reserve the right to take my time or even to say no. But if your suggestion adds value without too much complexity, chances are I'll do it.
Of course, this is all based on GPL'd code, so you could always fix it yourself.
