This talkd is the ktalkd program configured to work without KDE.
This enables even non-KDE users to have a full-featured talk daemon.

So :

* if you have KDE (at least 1.1), you already have ktalkd
  (it's part of the kdenetwork package). Remove this package.

* if you have KDE 1.0, you can compile this talkd, using ./configure --with-X,
  to enable KDE support.

* if you don't have KDE, you can compile this talkd to have the same
  features, except graphical announcement and communication with the ktalk
  client. Simply use ./configure
