note: To enable translations, you must add locale to clib:
(this is usually done by integrated environments)
sudo localedef -i zh_CN -f /usr/share/i18n/charmaps/UTF-8 zh_CN
then set environment variables LANG and LC_ALL to zh_CN (Chinese China)

known bugs for Rodent Beta RC1:
CRASH: on removing multiple items from the desktop (race, seems that path was sacked): keep testing with multiple removes from desktop. Plus, the screen refresh is too slow to appear...

For Rodent BETA:

PACKAGE BUILDS:
Freebsd: gawk, librsvg
Archlinux: ghostscript, gsfonts, librsvg. libzip
Debian:libmagic-dev libzip Ghostscript

============================================================================
Beta blockers:

-- freebsd tweaks and tests for rfm-diff
-- about dialog for rfm-fm and rfm-mime
-- update 2010 dates to 2011

-- make dist
-- freebsd port (dependencies)
-- gentoo ebuild
-- debian32 package
-- debian64 package
-- archlinux32 pac
-- archlinux64 pac

--INVALID after a rename by label click, monitor is apparently in skip state until mouse moved.

- PASSED remove all warnings when configured with CFLAGS="-ggdb -Wunused -Wunused-function -Wunused-label -Wunused-value -Wunused-variable -Wimplicit -Wall"

///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
Deferred till Gamma:
deskview:- (gtk-bug, event->x,y is out of sync with actual button bress even if mouse move is being generated rapidly) draw box expose is broken for deskview and sometimes for iconview (apparently a reload condition or something resets initial mouse x,y position
- deskview: sometimes, image thumbnails do not appear if the thumbnail cache does not exist, until mouse is hovered over item (expose condition). Seem like a race condition between expose events, maybe. Must think of a decent solution... (this looks fixed: image thumbnail does not appear with freshly copied items to desktop, expose condition)

-- GRIDVIEW: repositioning of scrollbar does not work well if diagnostics is visible.

-- rfm-diff: colored output for different patchmake formats

- dnd pixmap mode (cp/ln/mv) changes only if mouse moved (missing keyboard triggers)
- cp dnd pixmap broken (seems gtk bug). multiple, ln and mv are ok.

small bug: rfm_diagnostics: <esc>[0m will chop everything till end of line, including \n This is seen in about dialog output at rodent.c

--> cleanup: use widgets_p instead of view_p for all function calls

--- modules: samba, applications, sftp (will depend on rsync)

--- if hostname ne display hostname, put hostname in title %s:

--- user defined icon sizes (any reasonable size)

--- make distcheck is broken?

--- use apps plugin to get icon information from desktop files, if any, for popup menu and apps plugin.

--- save system installed theme/icontheme.cache

--- slider on unused space or preferences dialog to set the icon-size (rodent_population.c:get_best_iconsize())

* fstab: cosmetic bug, empty menu if multiple selection items; same for popup on root of fstab.

Ubuntu: (rodent:14934): CRITICAL **: murrine_style_draw_box: assertion `height >= -1' failed. This is ubuntus bug.

* dnd: if same device, default move, if different device, default copy. to desktop, default symlink (maybe not...)

** PENDING: need to create a hashkey collisions file for all g_string for paths in dbh files.

*=============================================================================
* selection box will not scroll down/up when pointer leaves window by bottom/top
   (BUG: selection box should scroll down and up)

* gtk-doc documentation

* remove all warnings when configured with CFLAGS="-ggdb -Wunused -Wunused-function -Wunused-label -Wunused-value -Wunused-variable -Wimplicit -Wall"

* root level menu for fstab... with an "about" dialog

BUG: shellscript icons not shown correctly: this is because magic needs to be done on them... since freedesktop fails miserably. But then, in other cases it is the other way around...

BUG: adding new applications to applications.xml is a pain in the butt.

BUGS:
1.fstab monitor borked in BSD
** 4.important: put fcntl locks on all cache reads... icon theme, pixmaps, application file and all files which are written. See primary.i for example.

FreeBSD bugs:
2. program icon borked with wmaker. ok with afterstep and fvwm.

RELEASE:
list of binary packages we should get installed (see README)

----------------------------------------------------------------------

*  video preview (ffmpeg)
*  tabs
*  trash plugin
    (create another trash plugin with nautilus/dolphin/konqueror
    trash behaviour.)
* proc plugin
*  smb plugin
** sftp plugin
*  applications plugin

applications editor (as xfmime, but for application association, to check applications module as well...)???

CHECK WITH TWM: deskview: watch_root at deskview_monitor.i, this is necesary when wm is twm but breaks things if nautilus is running..
    //XLowerWindow(GDK_DISPLAY(),GDK_WINDOW_XID(((GtkWidget *)desk_view_p->widgets.window)->window));
Probably will be zapped anyways because of new monitor scheme...

==== CLEANUP:
Configuration dialog:
 -number selection spin button:
* shred passes

==== FEATURES:
* create another trash plugin with nautilus/dolphin/konqueror trash behaviour.

libxffm mods:
* use svg icons on high resolution monitors and use rgb hints to get an equivalent size of 48x48.

==== +++++++++++++
Hello guys.

I have news. A new filemanager called Rodent is now available (the name comes from Francois le Clainche's "Rodent" svg icon theme). This filemanager aims to be fast by harnessing the multithreading capabilities of new multicore hardware.

Although Rodent aims to be easy to use, it is definitely *not* a file manager for "dummies". The keyboard, for example, is a fully functional console terminal (printer style) which manages background processes via threads. Just type a command and see what I mean. Emphasis is on ease of use for the advanced user, not the computer illiterate.

The svn repository is hosted at http://svn.foo-projects.org/, for which I must thank Auke Kok for the excellent work he has shown keeping the system up and running. I should also should thank Intel Corp. for providing me with the first multicore computer to start the migration to multithreading.

But beware: Rodent is distributed as is, in the hope that it will be as useful to you as it is to me, but WITHOUT ANY WARRANTY, such as the GPL license explains.

So, enjoy.

Alpha release is limited to source tarballs (beta will come with Debian 32 and 64 bit binaries) for which you will need a full set of development tools. Development tools are standard in Gentoo Linux, but are add ons on distributions such as Ubuntu, Suse or Redhat.
