 PCPD 8 :-              Amiga Emulator.
                        ===============

    The Emulator Runs Only With VGA Card, Microsoft Compatible Mouse And A
   Minimum Of 512k Extended Memory. The Mouse Has To Be Microsoft
   Compatible On Com1:. Kickstart 1.2, Version 33.192 Will Be Emulated.

    There Is No Hardware Emulation, So Only "Clean" Programed Stuff Will
   Run. (Slowly)

    The Boot Drive Is Drive A, And If This Is A 5.25" You Have To Make A
   Copy Of The 3 1/2....

    To Get This Emulator To Work Properly You Have Got To First Find
   Someone Who Has Got An AMIGA And They Are Able To Copy The Boot Sector
   Of An AMIGA Disk Onto A PC Formatted Disk.

    This Is Because The Emulator Needs This Boot Sector To Start Up,
   Without This, The Emulator WILL Crash!

    There Could Still Be Problems With The Emulator As It Uses Hardware
   Settings And So Some 30% Of Programs Are Still Likely To CRASH!

 PCPD 9:-                       APPLE II Emulator.
                                ==================

    This Is The Documentation For The IBM 286/386 APPLE II Emulator. The
   Emulator Is Not Quite Complete But Since It Is A "For Fun" Project I
   Thought That I Would Go Ahead And Release What I Currently Have. The
   Following Describes The Stage Of Completion For Each Of The APPLE II
   Emulator Sections:

             Video - The Emulator Will Run On A CGA, EGA, Or VGA,
                             However, It Looks Much Better On AnEGA Or VGA.
                             All The APPLE II Video ModesAre Supported
                             Except Mixed Mode With 4Lines Of Text At The
                             Bottom Of The GraphicsScreen. Low Resolution
                             And High ResolutionGraphics Are Supported.

             Keyboard - The Keyboard Functions As An APPLE II Keyboard
                             Except For The Following Keys:

                             Prtsc - Exit The APPLE II Emulator
                     Scroll Lock - Change The Screen UPDate Method
                     Num Lock - Toggle Between Keypad And Joystick

                             Some Programs Run Faster Depending On The
                             Video Update Method. Try Toggling The Scroll
                             Lock To See If The Program Runs Faster.

             Joystick - A Joystick Is Emulated Using The Numeric
                             Keypad. See The Joystick.Doc File For More
                             Information On Joystick Modes, Ajustments,
                             Etc.

             Disk Drive - Only APPLE II Floppy Type Drives Are Supported
                             Now, I Need More Information On How A Apple
                             Hard Disk Works. The Floppies Are Emulated
                             ByHave PC Disk Files Named Diskxy.Dsk, Where:

                             X - Is The Slot Number Of The Disk Controller

                             Y - Is The Drive Number, A Or B

                             For Example, If You Had A Disk Controller In
                             Slot 6, The Default The File Disk6a.Dsk
                             Would Be The APPLE II Disk Image.

             Langauge Card - A 32k Langauge Card Is Supported And Can Be
                             Accessed Via Standard Langauge Card Methods.

             Serial Card - Sorry But There Is No Serial Support Yet,
                             AgainI Need More Information About The APPLE
                             II Serial Port.

   Well There Is Really A Lot More To This But Since I'm GivingOut The
   Source You Can Look At It For Yourself. I Plan On Adding A Lot Of Other
   Features But I'm Not Sure When I Will Get Around To Them. Until Then I
   Hope You Enjoy What I Have Done So Far, Thanks Again.

  PCPD 14.                  ATARI 400/800 EMULATOR.

    PC Xformer 2.0 - The Atari 400/800 Emulator For MS-DOS Compatible PCs
    =====================================================================

    Program by Darek Mihocka. Many thanks to Danny Miller and Bob Woolley
    for their beta testing and technical help, to Greg Tibbets for the many
    Rana drives, to Jan Gray for sharing the cool programming tricks, and
    to Nick Kennedy for developing the SIO2PC cable which makes life so
    much easier.

    Features
    --------

    Many of the limitations of the ST Xformer emulator are gone thanks to
    the much faster processing power of the PC and its superior VGA
    graphics capablities. If you previously used ST Xformer you'll find
    much faster emulation of Atari 8-bit programs with much greater
    compatibility.

    PC Xformer 2.0 is the first and only Atari 8-bit emulator for either
    the ST or PC that supports all these features:

    - 48K RAM with built-in Atari 400/800 operating system and Atari BASIC

    - displays all ANTIC text and graphics modes, including GTIA modes

    - displays player missile graphics (no collision detection)

    - handles display list interrupts, IRQ, and NMI interrupts

    - 256 color GTIA palette

    - reads and writes to ST Xformer and SIO2PC generated disk images

    - reads MS-DOS files directly and automatically converts to disk image

    - switches Atari Basic on/off with one keystroke

    - joystick emulation using the keyboard

    - full speed emulation on a 386/33 or faster

    - slow and fast modes of emulation

    The speed of Atari 8-bit emulation is proportional to the speed of your
    PC, with a 33 Mhz 386 approximately giving the normal speed of an Atari
    800.

    Below is a list of processors and the approximate speed of emulation
    relative to an Atari 800:

           - 286/16    - 0.3
           - 386SX/20  - 0.5
           - 386DX/33  - 1.0
           - 486DX/33  - 2.0
           - 486DX2/66 - 4.0
           - Pentium   - 7+

    486 and Pentium users can use the slow/fast option to slow down the
    emulator to normal speed if necessary.

    Hardware requirements
    ---------------------

    PC Xformer 2.0 is a 16-bit MS-DOS application. It is designed to run on
    most PCs with minimum hardware requirements. It requires only a 286
    compatible CPU, so it is compatible with all 286, 386, 486 and Pentium
    based PC, as well as any PC that can emulate the 286. For example, the
    Mac running SoftAT, the PowerMac running SoftWindows, and any Windows
    NT based RISC machine.

    PC Xformer 2.0 also requires a VGA compatible display, and about 200K
    of RAM.

 -----------------------------------------------------------------------------

   PCPD15      DRAGON EMULATOR.

    Introduction
    ============

    Welcome to PC-Dragon, a Dragon or Tandy Color Computer II emulator for
    IBM PC's and compatibles. This program allows you to use your Dragon or
    Tandy CoCo games and applications software without the need to clutter
    up your desk with more than one computer.

    Either a Dragon 32, Dragon 64 or Tandy CoCo II with Extended Color
    BASIC is emulated by PC-Dragon, depending on the ROM file used. The
    emulator will automatically detect which architecture and breakpoints
    to use, although if you have more than one ROM image you may also
    choose a machine using the available command line switches.

    This documentation refers in general to the 'Dragon' to mean either of
    Dragon 32, Dragon 64 or Tandy CoCo II. Where important differences are
    known they are stated explicitly.

    If you have obtained PC-Dragon from a bulletin board or ftp server then
    you cannot use the emulator straight away. This is because the emulator
    requires a copy of the ROM chip from your Dragon or Tandy CoCo to
    function correctly, and this software cannot be included in the .ZIP
    for copyright reasons.

    Full details of how to transfer the ROM from your machine can be found
    later in the document.

    Minimum Requirements
    ====================

    PC-Dragon runs on any PC with VGA graphics. It can be run full-screen
    from Windows, or in a DOS box if graphics modes are not required. It
    runs fine with the Acorn Archimedes 80188 PC emulator, and has also
    been used on an Amiga 500 with KCS PC daughterboard.

    However, a 33MHz machine or faster is recommended. Amiga PC-TASK is not
    compatible with PC-Dragon.

    A Mouse Systems or Microsoft compatible mouse may be used for Dragon
    joystick emulation and mouse support. A PC joystick may also be used to
    emulate the Dragon joysticks.

    A soundcard and software are required to read and write dragon cassette
    tapes using the 2CAS.EXE and 2WAV.EXE utilities. A soundcard is not
    required to read cassettes using the READVOC.COM program, but a special
    cable must be constructed (diagram included).

    The emulator uses 200K to emulate a Dragon 32, 232K to emulate a Tandy
    CoCo and 248K to emulate a Dragon 64. It can be run from either floppy
    or hard disk without a performance hit during normal usage, but loading
    cassette and ROM files is slower from floppy. The TextView pager is
    also slow when used with slow drives, because it operates on the text
    entirely from disk (in order to run in constant memory).

    DRAGON.EXE
    ==========

    General Features
    ----------------

    The following features are emulated:

    * All documented 6809 instructions, addressing modes and registers.
    * Text screen; IBM approximations to Dragon graphic blocks are used.
    * All 56 Dragon 2 and 4 colour graphics modes.
    * Keyboard input, at hardware or operating system level.
    * Cassette input/output redirected to DOS via ROM breakpoints.
    * IRQ interrupt, connected to 50Hz VDG refresh signal (see below).
    * Joysticks, using either the keyboard, mouse or PC joystick.
    * Printer port redirected to PC parallel or serial ports.
    * Automatically provides D32, D64 or Tandy CoCo II architecture.
    * Optional artifacted colours in PMODE 4.
    * Reset button.

    Other features:

    * Debugging version. Allows single stepping, breakpoints, register and
    memory dumps etc.

    * A range of extra PC/DOS emulator services available from the Dragon.

  -----------------------------------------------------------------------------

   PCPD 16.                    MACINTOSH EMULATOR.

    RESTRICTIONS

    This DEMO copy of Executor/DOS 1.2 is fully functional with two
    exceptions. You can only run this demo copy for ten minutes at a time,
    and even if you have a SCSI adapter or CD-ROM drive, you still can't
    access Macintosh formatted SCSI drives, Powerbooks or CD-ROMs.

    This demo version does not keep track how many times you've run it.
    Since you can easily copy a Macintosh formatted floppy or two before
    the ten minute time limit is up, you can trivially get much use out of
    this software without sending us any money. If you're a hacker, you'll
    find it easy to disable the time limit as well. The point is the
    creation of this program was a non-trivial enterprise. Strict
    clean-room techniques were used to reverse engineer the internals of
    the Macintosh ROMs. We need money to grow. In fact, even if you don't
    quite find the utility that you'd like from this current version, you
    might want to consider purchasing it anyway to take advantage of our
    update policy when Executor/DOS 2.0 comes out and to make your voice
    heard in support of what we're doing.

    NO DOCUMENTATION WITH DEMO VERSION

    Executor/DOS is easy enough to install and use that you really don't
    need to read the documentation. However, if you are going to be using
    Executor a lot, there are short-cuts and fine points that you should be
    aware of, and for this we recommend you read our documentation.

    EXECUTOR/DOS 1.2 vs EXECUTOR/PC 2.0

    Executor/DOS 1.2 has several limitations:

    Some programs run; many do not.

    Cut and Paste is not supported between multiple
       invocations of Executor under Windows or OS/2

    No Color
    No Sound
    No Printing
    No Serial Port Support
    No System 7 Support
    No INITs or CDEVs
    No AppleTalk
    No International Customization

    Our goal for Executor/PC 2.0 is to get rid of as many of those
    limitations as possible. Right now E/PC 2.0 is scheduled for release
    in July and it should run much more software, support cut and paste
    between multiple Executor invocations and Windows programs, support
    color, sound, printing and serial port access and have *some* System 7
    support. There will definitely not be support for INITs, CDEVs,
    AppleTalk or International Customization in E/PC 2.0.

    All the 2.0 specifications are subject to change.

    THIS PACKAGE COMES ON TWO HIGH DENSITY DISKS SO THE COST IS `5.00 FULLY
    INCLUSIVE.

  PCPD 18:- FDFORMAT

       SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
       -------------------

       IBM or compatible Computer
       DOS 3.20 or above

       FEATURES OF FDFORMAT
       --------------------

       FDFORMAT is a replacement for the DOS-Format program, which has
       the following advantages:

       1) Supporting 3.5"-1.44 MB drives with any BIOS-Versions in ATs and
          Clones. This saves you a lot of money, you would need for a new
          BIOS-Version.
       2) Formatting and using of 720/820 kByte disks in AT 5.25"-1.2 MByte
          Drives using cheap double-density (DD) disks.
       3) Increasing the capacity of your disks up to 300 kByte
          additional storage.
       4) Supporting 3.5"-360 kByte format. This is useful, when you want
          to make copies of 5.25"-disks to 3"-Disks using DISKCOPY
       5) Enhance speed of your diskette I/O up to 100% with sector
          sliding. This is a method of physical ordering sectors in a
          way, that your drive is ready to read the next logical sector,
          when your head advances one track.
       6) Improved BOOT-Sector, which automatically boots from harddisk,
          if the diskette in drive A: is not a system disk. This allows
          you to leave the diskette in drive A:, when you reboot the
          system.

  This Disk Gives QXL The Ability To Read 5 1/4" 720k Disks On An High Density
  5 1/4" Disk Drive.

        dos4gw.exe  DOS extender (for DOS/Windows 3.x)
        dos4gw.doc  ASCII text describing dos4gw.exe

    The dos4gw.exe program _must_ be in your PATH for DOS/Windows 3.x.

    Supports long (<255 chars) under NT (Win32) & OS/2, DOS/Win16
    limited to 8+3.

    The NT version should run in a DOS box under Windows 95 without
    requiring the dos4gw extender.

    Environment Variables
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    QLINC   Directory for c68 *.h files (default c:\qlinc).
            Note that sys_ files are stored in a real sub-directory.
            sys_stat_h -> sys\stat.h
    QLLIB   Directory for c68 library and startup files (default c:\qllib)
            Note that to allow a semblence of meaningful names under
            DOS/Win 3.x, the lib bit is removed, so libc.a is stored as
            c.a. The library and startup files are taken verbatim from the
            c68 distribution.
    C68PATH Used by cc.exe to find other c68 programs (if they are not in PATH,
            or you have other programs of the same name (e.g. Borland C also has
            a 'cpp', using bcc/cpp with c68 == gpf under windows).
    The DOS4GW document describes its ev for quiet operation etc.
    Make
    ~~~~
    XTc68 works well with existing OS/2 and DOS make programs (for example
    Watcom's WMAKE or Borland's maker (but not bcc make which doesn't like
    DOS4GW)). The MAKEINIT and builtins.mak files provide QDOS additions
    to WMAKE and maker.

    The GNU make program also works well, in particular "make -j" is very
    impressive on large projects under Windows NT.

     Limitations of the emulator:
     ----------------------------
         You must be running a 386 (at least) PC.
         You must have at least 4MB ram.
         Only VGA graphics support.
         S3aEMUL will not run in a DOS box in Windows (it will "violate
                    Windows system integrity").
         S3aEMUL will not run under Windows NT or O/S 2.

     To run the emulator:
     --------------------
     Go to the directory including S3aEMUL.EXE and type "S3aEMUL".

     NB The emulator will behave oddly if it cannot find an M:.
     So be sure that one is available ( create one using SUBST if you need
     to ), although there doesn't have to be anything special in it.

 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    PCPD 21: SEGA EMULATOR. COMES ON 1 HIGH DENSITY DISK @ `2.50

    Created by TurboCharged Technologies

    Thank you for purchasing this program. Please note that the use of this
    program is at your risk, and authors may not be liable for software/hardware
    compatibility or damages caused by this program.

    This program is offered as a freeware from TurboCharged technologies. You
    may distribute freely. This program is simply a PLAYER that will read and
    play SEGA games on your PC!

    But first you must CONVERT your SEGA cartridges to a file!

    This program requires lots of work on your CPU's behalf, since the program
    has to take care of many details, gfx, sound, etc... Unfortunately you
    cannot run this on a 386 with slow vga cards.

    Program requirements are:

    - 486 DX/33 or DX/2 66 (RECOMMENDED)
    - 8 megs of RAM! Why ? Because program creates large .SGA files that
      have to load all at once and DECOMPRESSED into memory!
        - Very fast VGA or SVGA graphics card with 1 meg. LOCAL BUS video
      is required.
    - Sound Blaster Pro or Sound Blaster 16 ASP are supported! If you don't
      have one of those 2 sound cards, program won't run! Sorry, program
      does not support regular Sound Blaster.
    - DOS 5.x or higher.
    - You must run from a CLEAN bootdisk, without ANY memory managers
      like QEMM, HIMEM or any others! The emulator uses its own!

    When you run SEGA-EM.COM, you'll see a message "Please Wait" flash on your
    screen. You'll have to wait about 10 seconds for the program to initialise
    and configure your system. Then you should see the sega logo along with the
    voice exactly as if you were using a SEGA. Then you'll see a menu of all
    .SGA (SEGA) files on your HD. You make your selections and press RETURN.
    What about the SEGA joystick ? Well this program emulates the SEGA joystick
    on your keyboard, unfortunately, due to technical limitations. Use cursor
    keys, space, alt, A and B keys. or at ANY time press F1 for HELP!

    DO NOT try to edit or modify .SGA files, since they are not PC assembly
    language files. They are non-standard files which will look like garbage
    when you read them.

 ------------------------------------------------------------------------

    PCPD 22: SNES EMULATOR. COMES ON 1 HIGH DENSITY DISK @ `2.50.

    A. EMULATION...
       ~~~~~~~~~~~~
    This program effectively converts both SNES and 6502 OP Codes and preforms
    the required task of them. Say, for example, you had the following program
    fragment coded in SMC format:
            LDA #$FF
            STA $2100
    The resulting SMC file fragment would be "A9 FF 8D 00 21". This would then
    be input into the emulator. "A9" would be converted to "LDA immediate", and
    "FF" would be it's operand. So the emulator would load it's own variable
    "ACC" (which is used for the accumulator and defined as a one-byte integer),
    with the value 255 ($FF Hex), and increment the program counter by 2 (since
    LDA immediate is a 2-byte instruction). The emulator would then read "8D",
    which is converted to "STA absolute", and "$2100" would be it's resulting
    operand (since it requires a 2-byte operand, and the hi/lo nybbles of the
    word $0021 are reversed to get $2100). This all sounds very simple, however,
    the OP codes for IBM differ from those of the 6502 and SNES (hence, direct
    CPU access is futile).
    This is where the emulator comes in. It loads the OP codes from the SMC file
    (not from RAM - So only 1MB is required), converts them to a string for
    easier processing (though somewhat slower in some cases), and acts on them
    as mnemonics (as acting on them as their native 6502 or SNES OP Codes would
    be a very Bad Thing, since the OP codes differ greatly across the different
    microprocessor series).
    B. FRIENDLY GUI...
       ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    This program now uses a Pro-series console unit's GUI, instead of the 3D/I
    GUI used in previous versions (.50, .65 and .66). For your education, v.4X
    had no GUI, it was a command-line-based emulator.

    C. REALTIME CART ID...
       ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    When running a file, the Cart ID string with be displayed alongside the
    filename for all files. In previous versions, only the selected file would
    show it's Cart ID.
    D. FILE VIEWER...
       ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    The VSMC program also contains a full disassembler (and re-assembler) for
    editing your favorite SMC file, or just seeing what's in there. Features hex
    dump, unassemble, bank select, file position set, ASCII dump, ASCII search
    and execute. See the disassembler section for details.

    E. JOYPAD EMULATION WITH KEYBOARD...
       ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
       The current keyboard definitions for joypad emulation are as follows:
       SNES        IBM           MEMLOC SET
       ~~~~        ~~~           ~~~~~~~~~~
       Btn START - "]" KEY     - $4219 Bit 4
       Btn SELCT - "[" KEY     - $4219 Bit 5
       Pad Up    - Up Arrow    - $4219 Bit 3
       Pad Down  - Down Arrow  - $4219 Bit 2
       Pad Left  - Left Arrow  - $4219 Bit 1
       Pad Right - Right Arrow - $4219 Bit 0
       Btn A     - "END"       - $4219 Bit 7
       Btn B     - "PG DOWN"   - $4219 Bit 6
       Btn X     - "DELETE"    - $4218 Bit 7
       Btn Y     - "PAGE UP"   - $4218 Bit 6
       Top Btn L - "INS"       - $4218 Bit 5
       Top Btn R - "DEL"       - $4218 Bit 4

    A joypad picture is now displayed whenever you run a SMC file to remind you
    of the keyboard emulation keys (v.69+)

    F. UNIVERSAL CHEAT "TSR"...
       ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    First, it should be noted that the Universal Cheat is not actually a TSR, it
    only acts as one. By pressing a defined hot-key during gameplay, the user
    can access the universal cheat utility, which is much like GameWizard. It
    allows you to scan memory locations, detect changes, and freeze specific
    values in memory. In effect, you can "freeze" your character's hit points at
    a certain level, modify them, detect changes in them, etc. This is all done
    automatically, the system searches for a specified value two or more times,
    each time after the value has been known to change, narrowing the field down
    to one or two addresses. Note that this is not yet functional.
    G. EXECUTING SMC PROGRAMS...
       ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    The program will only read a file if it has the SMC extension. The emulator
    DOES NOT check for file integrity, or if it's even SMC at all! This could
    result in another Bad Thing. This also presents a problem, since the file
    must have the extension SMC, the files MUST be joined. Also, it is
    recommended >STRONGLY< that you use a RAM drive to store your SMC file if
    possible, because the emulator reads from the SMC file as the data is
    needed. Although this is a VERY good thing in some cases (the SMC file can
    be as large as your HDD and it would still be runnable). This can also be a
    real slow- down. Therefore, it is recommended that, if possible, you use a
    RAM Drive to store your SMC coded files. (I should also mention that the SMC
    files take no time to "load", as such is the case with console backup
    units). Although this probably is of no importance to the average user, the
    SMC file can only actually be just over 2 Gigabytes in length (2^31-1
    bytes). Sorry for any inconvenience this may have imposed upon you.

    I have decided to put these three disclaimers here. First of all, due to the
    graphics mode differences between NTSL (or PAL) and the IBM, the graphics
    on-screen (currently) look very tall and long (the graphics take the entire
    vertical space, but only about 1/3 the horizontal space). I plan to correct
    this in the NEAR future. Second, the image is interlaced. Although this is
    really no problem (it's the same as a regular TV), it looks kind of funny to
    see interlaced images on an IBM monitor (every second line is blank). Please
    note that the image itself is not actually interlaced, but it's that way my
    emulator writes it to the screen that makes it APPEAR to be interlaced.
    Thirdly, the emulator is very, VERY slow. You'll have to wait around 10
    seconds just to see CC-RUNME.SMC, VSMC.SMC or BASELINE.SMC. Please note that
    I have censored the racist remarks found in BASELINE.SMC.

    H. MODE7 EMULATION...
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    The program does not yet emulate the SNES graphics mode-7 routines, However,
    I will incorporate the routines found in MODE7.EXE in to the emulator by
    v2.00. MODE7.EXE is a program I created to demonstrate how assembly (IBM
    Assembly) can be used to SIMULATE the effects of SNES Mode7. Although not
    all effects have be incorporated into this program (Some types of rotation
    are missing), they are being worked on. (MODE7.EXE requires a SVGA card
    and/or an installed VESA driver)
    B. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS...
       ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
     o 80386+ Microprocessor Now required for Mode7 and Emulator Init
     o 1MB RAM RAMDRIVE is strongly recommended
     o SMC File A Simple SMC file (Three are Included)
     o SVGA Monitor/Card SVGA Now Required to use "RUN FILE"

 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------

   PCPD 23:   TRS 80 EMULATOR.

     1.1 Description

     This emulator package allows your MS-DOS based PC to run as a TRS-80 Model I.
     It will be able to run virtually all Model I applications and software from
     Galaxy Invasion to Electric Pencil and the Z-80 Editor/Assembler. My aim
     was to be able to design a convincing "virtual reality" in which a Model I
     program would not be able to tell that it was not running in the genuine
     machine. This virtual Model I includes the following options:

     - 48k CPU with Z-80 Microprocessor,
     - Expansion Interface (including internal clock, printer port, and floppy
       disk controller),
     - RS-232 port,
     - 4 80-track single-sided disk drives,
     - Lowercase and numeric keypad upgrades.

     This package is distributed in a .ZIP file and should contain the following
     files:

     Main package:
     MODEL1.EXE - The emulator program itself
     MODEL1.FNT -    The Model I character set
     READ.ME - Important copyright and registration information
     SETUP.EXE - Installation and configuration program

     Support programs:
     CONVERT.BAS - Converts XTRS's Level II ROM file for use with this program
     MODEL1.DOC -    This file
     PUBLIC.DSK - A Model I virtual disk file containing some public domain
                     programs
     RECEIVE.EXE - MS-DOS program to receive Model I ROM or disks from TRS-80
                     via parallel port (used with TRSLINK)
     SPEEDUP.BAS - Patches Model I ROM to remove some built-in delays
     TRANSMIT.BAS - Model I BASIC program for sending Model I ROM and disks
                     through the serial port
     TRSLINK.BAS - Model I BASIC program to send ROM and disks through parallel
                     port

     This emulator requires CGA, DOS 2.11 or better and at least a 7MHz clock
     speed, though a hard drive and at least 16 MHz is strongly recommended.

   PCPD 24:                  QLTOOLS v2.5
                             ============
     What is it
     ----------

     This document describes the features of the program qltools v2.5.

     qltools v2.5 is a program for systems such as Linux, Windows NT, OS/2
     and MSDOS (and Win95) to read and write floppy disks in the 'QL5A' or
     'QL5B' format used by the QDOS operating system and its clones and
     near-siblings such as SMS2, SMSQ, SMSQ/E and most other things
     starting SMS.

     qltools can be compiled for and should run on other Unix systems. It
     will also handle disk images under VAX/VMS, but this is not included
     in the distribution.

     qltools v2.5 is based on the qltools program of Giuseppe
     Zanetti, with modifications by Valenti Omar and Richard Zidlicky.

     v2.5 has been almost entirely rewritten by Jonathan R Hudson.

     WHAT'S NEW IN VERSION 3.23

     This is a major reworking of Rainer Kowallik's QL emulator for the
     Amiga. Most of the new features have been added by Mark J Swift
     (e-mail: msw@mail.blackpool.ac.uk) - Rainer is no-longer involved in
     the project. The release includes full assembler source and a QDOS
     utilities disk. Also included is a filesystem by Francis N Swift for
     handling QDOS disks from the Amiga side.

     Here is a short list of changes since the last release. For a more
     comprehensive list read the file 'Amiga-QDOS.ver'

     * Now runs on more recent Amigas (A4000, A1200 etc).
     * For 68020+ compatibility, emulates MOVE SR,<ea> in user mode
        (the instruction is priviledged on 020+).
     * For 68060 compatibility, emulates MOVEP instruction
        (the instruction is not implemented on the 68060).
     * Allows data and instruction caches to be switched on & off
     * QDOS System variables now movable.
     * QDOS system space can locate to FAST RAM
     *  Supports a Minerva-like second screen.
     * MODE 8 supported in full.
     *  Sound supported in full.
     *  Standard <ALT><ENTER> keyboard-history facility built-in.
     * JS ROM compatible with many JS ROM bug fixes.
     *  Very stable.

 ----------------------------------------------------------------
     Vers. 3.23 - SEP 95

     BUG FIXES:

        Fixed bug in MOVE SR,<ea> emulation routine that prevented
        TURBO compiler (and possibly others) from working on the
        A4000/A1200 -MJS

        Fixed bug in JS ROM IO_QIN routine that assumed 24 bit
        addressing. $383A BNE.S $385A becomes BLT.S $385A

        Fixed bug in JS ROM RI_EXEC routine that assumed that the
        byte stored at address $0 was $0. The long word stored at
        address $0 contains the initial stack when re-booting QDOS.
        If QDOS is moved to a high address (eg $7e00000-$8000000),
        then the byte at zero is non-zero.

        Fixed bug(s) in keyboard routines that caused auto-repeat to
        sometimes go into overdrive if interrupts were disabled for
        a long period (i.e. during disk accesses).

        Fixed L_QDOS to disable the MMU (on the '040+) before taking
        over the amiga.

        CTRL-ALT-SHIFT-TAB (hard reset) and CTRL-ALT-7 (soft reset)
        now wait for blitter to finish before disabling anything
        (so no more rolling-screen-garbage) and correctly set all
        variables for VDU routines (so no more screen lock-ups)

        Fixed bug in JS ROM ATAN routine at $4350 (ARITH_asm).
        move.l #...,(a6,a1.w) becomes move.l #...,(a6,a1.l)

     ADDITIONS/ALTERATIONS:

        Changed TAS emulation code from F-Line to A-Line. F-Line
        instructions were taking too long on the A4000, possibly due
        to the hardware searching for non-existent co-processors.
        Emulation now uses instruction: %1010111XXXXXXXXX. Altered
        NO_TAS and RESTORE_TAS to suit.

        Added ICACHE_ON, ICACHE_OFF, DCACHE_ON and DCACHE_OFF. These
        keywords allow the instruction and data caches to be turned
        on and off. Intruction and data caches default to ON.

        Added RESET_EXTENTS command to compliment RESET_TOP and
        RESET_SV. RESET_EXTENTS allows the simultaneous setting of
        RAMTOP and the system variable area.

        Altered SYS_REF_task to make TURBO, TURBO compiled and some
        QLIB tasks 32-bit clean.

        Added support for 'other' (i.e. not the default) screen and
        independent screen redraw (switch modes without clearing
        screen) to BASICs MODE and the m/c routine MT.DMODE. (now
        100%+ minerva compatible?). Task/screen switching supports
        differing screen modes (i.e. one screen can be mode 8 and the
        other mode 4). The unused bits in SV_MCSTAT are used to
        indicate the state of the 'unseen' screen. Lots of changes in
        the ROM to accomodate for the fact that the screen you are
        drawing/printing to, may be other than or in a different mode
        to the one that is being shown.

        Added COPYBACK_ON and COPYBACK_OFF which allows copyback
        mode to be turned on and off.

        Added 'ACE' screen accelerator. This ROM takes over from the
        blitter providing QL screen emulation via the processor. Both
        MODE 4 and MODE 8 are supported. On 68030 processors and
        above, screen emulation is both smoother and faster. 'ACE'
        screen emulation can be turned on or off via the commands
        ACE_ON and ACE_OFF.

        Altered L_QDOS to 'auto-configure' allowing QDOS to be
        launched from a single icon on ALL amigas. Custom icons are
        provided for those who wish to force a particular
        configuration (i.e. running QDOS from CHIP RAM only).

        Added KEZUK keyword. Acts just like KEYUK, by re-enabling the
        UK keymap.

        Added MOVEP emulation for 68060 compatibility. MOVEP is not
        implemented on the 68060!

        On 68010+... exception vectors now copied into RAM, and VBR
        set to point to vector copies. This allows all 256 exceptions
        to be catered for. Vectors 48-255 are normally unusable
        (overwritten) in QDOS.

        Vector 4 (illegal instruction) copied into vector 61. Allows
        68060 MOVEP emulation to actually work. Bug fix suggested by
        Simon Goodwin.
