README for ScreenWrite 1.0.10 - 6/26/98

AUTHOR, LICENSE, ETC.

ScreenWrite was written by me, Jeremy Radlow, in May of 1998. All rights
reserved.

ScreenWrite is shareware. If you use ScreenWrite and enjoy it, your honor
requires that you pay a modest registration fee of $5. You can buy
ScreenWrite online from PilotGear at:

   http://www2.viaweb.com/pilotgearsw/jeremyradlow.html

Or you can just send the $5 to me at:

Include your email address and HotSync name so I can send you a registration
number.  Thanks!

REQUIREMENTS

ScreenWrite may or may not work with the Pilot 1000 and Pilot 5000; there
are no promises at this point. ScreenWrite does work on the Palm Personal
and later models. There may be some inter-application interactions which
cause ScreenWrite to work less than perfectly; see below.

You must also install HackMaster (0.9 or later) to run ScreenWrite, as
ScreenWrite is a Hack.

INSTALLING SCREENWRITE

[ If you already have installed ScreenWrite, you must disable it in the ]
[ HackMaster control panel before upgrading. Otherwise, your PalmPilot ]
[ will crash. That's just the way it is with Hacks. ]

ScreenWrite is bundled with HackMaster, for your convenience. If you
don't already have HackMaster, you must install hackmstr.prc in the
usual way.  Also install scrnwrit.prc.

Note that HackMaster is a shareware product from DaggerWare. See the
HackMaster information screen for details on registering.

Once you've installed HackMaster and ScreenWrite, you must open HackMaster,
and check the box next to ScreenWrite. ScreenWrite is now enabled.

USING SCREENWRITE

Just write on the screen; you'll see ink appear. When you lift your pen,
the ink blot will be interpreted as Graffiti. To write numbers, write
your Graffiti on the right hand side of the screen.

If you need to perform operations on a specific area of the screen, such
as selecting text or drawing, just hold the pen still for a fraction of
a second. The ink blot will be cancelled, and you can proceed with drawing
your line as if ScreenWrite weren't installed.

You can adjust the ink blot cancellation delay in the ScreenWrite control
panel, reachable from the HackMaster control panel (just press the "+"
next to ScreenWrite).

CONFIGURATION

Configuration options include:

* Ink cancellation delay;
* Pen thickness (from invisible to 2 pixels wide);
* Graffiti shortcut for enabling/disabling ScreenWrite
  (handy for paint applications);
* Autocapitalization of letters written in the middle of the screen
  (similar to Jot);
* Autocapitalization of large (> 50% screen height) letters;
* Enabling sounds or visual cues when ScreenWrite is toggled;
* Enabling/disabling the ScreenWrite application "memory".
* A workaround for SelectHack. The workaround may be more trouble
  than it's worth, unless you really love SelectHack.

To configure ScreenWrite, bring up the HackMaster application and click
on the "+" button next to ScreenWrite. Click on the Options button
for additional options.

BUGS

Probably the first question that most people ask is, "How does ScreenWrite
work with applications like painting utilities?" The answer is, it doesn't
work optimally - you must hold your pen down for a fraction of a second
even if it's obvious to you that ScreenWrite should be smart enough to
let you begin scrawling immediately. However, you can disable ScreenWrite
in an application with a single stroke of the pen (configurable), and
ScreenWrite will remember that you don't want its Graffiti recognition to
be enabled for that application in the future.

NOTES
