Short description:
QED is an easy to use text- and source-code editor.
This new version supports compression of DOC-files
and has a search function. Nearly unlimited filesize,
and wide screens with sidescroll for more survey at
source code editing are two other main features.

Status:
Trialware with registration feature.

Register:
1. To register visit http://www.visionary2000.com/qed/
and fill in the order form.
2. After your payment is processed you will receive a
   registration code via email.
3. Fill in this code in QED's Options/Register screen.
4. You can edit texts after this and

How to use:
- install 'QED.prc' as usual
- use QEX for easy handling of DOC's on your PC
QEX is available on - http://www.visionary2000.com/qed/qex.htm
(registered QED users can utilize their registration code for QEX to stop register messages)
    or
use 'MakeDocW' or 'MakeDoc7' or a similar application on your PC/MAC to make a Pilot DOC-file out of the text- or source-file you want to edit, the 'compress' option of this application may be set on or off (CR/LF Removal and Translation set to none), install the resulting DOC-file as usual on your PalmPilot
- to receive the text- or source-files back on your PC/MAC, hotsync your PalmPilot and look for files in the '...pilot\yourname\backup'-directory. To convert these files back to PC/MAC format use 'MakeDoc' with option '-d' or a similar application. You can automate this by using batchfiles.

'MakeDocW' for Win95 you can get from:
http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/Mark_Pierce

'MakeDoc7' for DOS you can get from:
ftp://ftp.wustl.edu/systems/mac/amug/files/pilot/pc/makedoc7.zip
ftp://ftp.uniroma2.it/%7bB/amug/files/pilot/pc/makedoc7.zip

ftp://ftp.amug.org/pub/amug/bbs-in-a-box/files/pilot/pc/makedoc7.zip

possible batchfile 'doc2txt.bat' to convert DOC->txt
(call with: doc2txt yourfile):
makedoc7 -d c:\pilot\yourname\backup\%1.pdb %1.txt

Some tips:
- tap on the gauge to navigate through texts, for better handling the start and end positions are enlarged
- tap on the basehalf of the navigation triangles to trace line by line through texts, the other triangle half steps one screen
- use big fieldwidths (default 160) to win survey when editing sourcecodes, no continued lines will annoy you
- use fieldwidth 160 when reading/writing textfiles
- fieldwidth-, fontsize-, textunderline-, editable- settings and edit position are stored automatically, individual for every file you work on
- use 'options/CompNew' to open new compressed/uncompressed files (uncompressed files are handled faster)
- 'commands/info' shows some file infos, the first number is the uncompressed file length, the second one the length it uses in memory, the asterix marks the file to be changed
- you cannot mark text upwards or sidewards over the textfields bounds
- if you have renamed two files to the same name you can only load the first file of both, load this file rename it and you have access to both files again
- the systems find feature can't find texts in QED
- compression is a time killing job, in some cases it could last up to 18 seconds, a busy sign will appear
- QED only performs compression if text was changed
- the upper part of the searchbutton intitiates a new search, the lower part repeats search, search is only available caseless
- use options/backup for forcing a file to be backed up or not at next hotsync, to avoid already backed up files to be saved at every hotsync (timeconsuming)switch it off, any changing of text sets the backup flag
- if editable is checked you can edit DOC's, navigation is done with navigation triangles
if editable is not checked you cannot edit DOC's, to navigate tap on upper/lower half of screen or use navigation triangles
- you can also use hardware up/down buttons on your Palm to navigate through DOC's
- when fscroll switch in options is set a full text screen is scrolled, if not set a text screen minus one line is scrolled
- options-dialog switches are sorted, left side: individual file settings, right side: global settings
- to delete a bookmark choose one, then enter the bookmark list again, your choosen bookmark is highlighted now, select 'Delete Bookmark'
- 'Scan Bookmarks' searches for text based bookmarks, they are identified by 'bookmark chars' like '' or '**', the next max. 15 characters are used as bookmark, QED does not perform an autoscan
- menue Options/BookChars lets you change these 'BookChars', the standard is ''
- if you edit your text, bookmarks will shift from their abolute stored positions, after performing 'Scan Bookmarks' again, all text based bookmarks will be updated without adding them again to the bookmark list

Bugs:
- do not load DOC's out of a FlashROM
Up to now I've worked several hundred hours on QED, but for sure it is not bugfree. So don't hesitate to send me your bugreports. Lost or scrambled texts and dreams, I do not hope QED will produce, I cannot bring back for you. A 'good bad' example for this was version 1.0T, it 'killed' AportisDoc and many Pilot fans were unhappy. So use this software at your own risk. Although this text and some parts of QED's source are written with itself.
If using fieldwidths greater than 400 on DOC's without linefeeds texts may be displayed not correct.

Warning:
- do not install older versions of QED after installing versions >= 1.32

Good luck
Kurt
