Commander Quick Install Guide

First-Time Installation

1) BEFORE DOING ANYTHING, ensure that your PalmPilot system password is either unassigned, or that you know what it is set to. A PalmPilot that has been locked by Commander is secure, and unless you know the password, there is no way to gain access to the machine without performing a hard-reset.

2) Delete any any conflicting applications. Commander should not be run with :

  • TealLock
  • Launch'Em
  • Launcher III
  • LaunchPad
  • QuickLaunch
  • Check-In
  • PowerHack
  • HideHack
  • Hide and Off
  • SafeHack
  • AppMan
  • Commander Lite
3) Install Commander using HotSync Install, or your preferred application installation method.

4) The .pdb file provided in this distribution is an example database, containing an example configuration. If you are NOT upgrading from a previous version of Commander, install the .pdb file.

5) Upon installation, Commander will prompt you to activate the application, causing a soft reset. Select "OK". If you only wish to view Commander, and not use it fully, select "Cancel" - doing this will not enable all of Commander's functionality, but will allow you to explore some of its features.

Version Upgrade

1) Ensure that you know your system password.

2) De-activate commander. Launch Commander/Commander Lite, and select the 'Install' menu option under 'Options'. Uncheck the 'Activated' checkbox, and tap 'OK'. Select 'OK' in the popup warning, to reset your pilot.

3) Install the new version of Commander, or Commander Lite. DO NOT install the example database (.pdb file), unless you wish to overwrite your current Commander settings with those in the example database.

4) Activate Commander. Launch Commander/Commander Lite, and select the 'Install' menu option under 'Options'. Check the 'Activated' checkbox, and tap 'OK'. Select 'OK' in the popup warning, to reset your pilot.

Upgrading from Commander Lite to Commander
