HOW TO INSTALL BASIC PROGRAM
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1. Before you can install any BASIC program, you need to install the
cBasPad program first.
2. For Windows users you can either use Option 1 or Option 2. For Mac user
you can only use Option 2.
Option 1 (For Windows User Only)
1. For each of my program package, there is a .PDB file. If you have
nothing in your cBasPad you can proceed to Step 4.
2. For those who already have programs in the cBasPad, you need to locate
your cBasPad backup created by HotSync. The name of the cBasPad backup is
CBASDB.PDB. If you do not know where it is, go to the root directory of the
drive where your pilot desktop is instaalled and issue the command "dir /s
cbasdb.pdb".
If you don't have the CBASDB.PDB because you are still using HotSync 1.0
than you must use Option 2 to install your BASIC program.
For those who have the CBASDB.PDB, please make sure you have the latest
backup. Do a HotSync and check to make sure the CBASDB.PDB last access date
and time is updated. If this is not happening, try renaming the file to
something else and redo the HotSync to recreate the CBASDB.PDB. On my
desktop using HotSync 1.1, my PDB are not updated for each HotSync if the
file is in the backup directory.
For those who still cannot get the latest backup copy, you must use Option
2 to install your BASIC program.
3. Copy the CBASDB.PDB into a temporary directory. Copy the PDB files and
MBASPDB.EXE from my software package into the same directory. Run the
command
"MBASPDB CBASDB.PDB <pdb_filename_from_the_software_package> NEWBAS".
This will create the merged cBasPad PDB called NEWBAS.PDB.
For the latest copy of MBASPDB.EXE, get it from
http://home.pacific.net.sg/~kokmun/pilotdesktop.htm.
4. Install the PDB with the standard pilot application installer. HotSync
and the new programs will be in your pilot cBasPad.
Option 2 (For Windows and Mac User)
1. Startup your PILOT DESKTOP.
2. Select MEMO, than FILE and finally IMPORT.
When prompted for filename, enter the CSV filename from the software
package.
Uncheck the PRIVATE option in the PILOT FIELDS as well.
Set the file source file character set to Windows(ANSI).
When the import is completed, you should be able to see all the BASIC
program in your PILOT DESKTOP MEMO. Each program will be in a seperate
MEMO.
3. Perform a HotSync now.
4. The BASIC program is now in your PILOT MEMO. Within your PILOT, you can
than use the cut-and-paste feature to transfer the BASIC source file into
cbasPad.
This is how this can be done. Open your MEMOPAD, select the Basic file for
editing. Use the "Select All" option follow by "Copy". Now, run CBASPAD. In
the CBASPAD, select "NEW" and than use the "PASTE" function. For bigger
source file, you may have to split the cut-and-paste into multiple steps.
