Touched For The Very First Time
by Clyde Radcliffe

I actually came across the many wonders of demos out of pure
accident. As back then we had just got a 1541 Disk Drive for
our trusty and humble Commodore64. And my brother had bought
a magazine, Commodore Format I believe; and there was an
advert for a PD Company in there.

I sent away for a catalogue thinking that it would be full of
disk utilities and games to use with the disk drive, and for a
mere 1.00 too. But after opening and looking through it, I
ordered a load to see what they were like. I then discovered
a plethora of tasty gfx demo morsels.

The very first one I watched was a beauty called Dutch Breeze
by a team known as Blackmail. Simply stunning and included tons
of design and well conceived parts. The next I viewed was equally
stunning and magical, and was Censor Designs - Wonderland 9. Both
these demos I was blown away by, as I couldnt believe what I was
seeing especially on a little Commodore64. Fantastic work!! :) and
I wanted to see many many more of where these came from.

It wasnt until I got on the Amiga, Red Sector Incs - MegaDemo.
To that, I thought I wouldnt mind trying something like this one
day myself!

Years passed. when I eventually managed to get my own PC, and I
discovered Blitz Basic. And a great guy by the name of Shockwave,
that I managed to fulfill a long awaited dream. I wouldnt consider
myself a great coder but whats important is that its fun, and an
awesome hobby to pursue after the pressures of work and a thing we
call life. I still love em even today all those classics, and the
new breed of technical excellence!! Bravo to all the people behind
these beauties out there.

They are great arent they!! :o)

Perhaps you have a story too that youd like to share with the
coolness of us GV folks, and how you found the wonders of tech
demos and the scene!

Cheers! :)
