Well wow! this is kinda spooky? Never in a million years did I think I'd be sat here typing a piece
for the EDITORIAL of the next generation Grapevine mag?

Firstly, I'd just like to take this opportunity to welcome everyone aboard the GV.net ship and
I hope together we can make this mag a go-er and not shrivvel and die after the first issue, as
per our previous www. attempt? Cheers to Dogbomb and Baz Patterson etc.. for giving it a
whirl in the first place, but unfortunately the lack of articles, response and general interest,
killed it stone dead!

Over the years, there has been many a 'heated' discussion on and off the GV mail list regarding
us using the Grapevine name and carrying on with the tradition set by the original members of LSD.

Let's look at this arguement for a moment....

The whole idea of the mailing list was originally down to a lot of individuals (including myself)
who wanted an online forum for ex-GV staff, other LSD members, regular readers and sceners
alike, to come together and discuss the good and bad times of Grapevine and possibly
kickstart enough interest into attempting a revival of the mag. Everyone knows what talk has
gone on so far (there's nearly 5 years of mails on the list to prove it) so I won't go too much
into that, but why the hell can't we carry on with Grapevine name? This revival was spawned
from the official mailing list which contained original LSD members and the use of the name
was contested by certain members of the ex-Grapevine staff, although the overall opinion was
in favour of using the name. Chances are, most of us that are behind the scenes here would
be LSD members or in someway actively connected with the mag if it was still running today
anyway?

Basically, we've taken the revival idea by the balls and now we want to make it real! It's fair
enough that GV has now moved on to a web based format and this was due to the fact that
at this stage of the game, a platform specific version wasn't viable. There is no reason why
we can't still achieve the popularity, sense of community and overall involvment that the
original had in a new online incarnation?

Grapevine was and always will be something special and by reviving it and carrying on with
the name, how the hell are we detracting from it? We have no intention of creating some half
arsed poxy mag and myself and the GV.net team are 101% committed into making this
thing work and hopefully you will take a bit of solice in the fact that the new mag is being
run by people who genuinely 'care'!

I can't help but express disappointment in the majority of the guys on the GV mail list due
to their lack of input and general thoughts & ideas etc.. and considering the amount of
members that are fixed into the list - it's all a bit baffling? What is the point of 'lurking' on
a mailing list with no intention of taking part in it?

Granted, the new mag isn't everyones cup of tea and we are all older and have other outlets
in life, but how hard is it to express an opinion?

That aside, I hope you all enjoy the first outing and plz keep those articles rolling in ...->
only YOU can make this thing happen.

Thanks,

(Additional): thanks to Zildjian for putting up with my constant nagging, being battered with
new ideas and for uploading/testing my GFX at a moments notice. Excellent work with the
site design man! (No probs. Got there in the end eh - Zildjian)

.... OK ... one two ... ... is this thing on? Ah, here we go:

So you're back!
(Yup, we're back)
From Outer Space!
(Er, almost, yes)
I just walked in to find you here with that sad look upon your face!

But enough karaoke. Yes, GRAPEVINE IS HERE! After many, many delays, tragedies,
excuses and timewasting, we've finally got it together and knocked out another issue of the
world's best diskmag. Except it's now a webmag. But it might be a diskmag again. Except
you download it. You get the idea.

So what happened? One minute we were a regular fixture in your favorite swapper's jiffy bag, the
next minute we were just a footnote in the history of the Amiga scene. The story is a long and
complicated one, involving fraud, love rivals, missing persons and a fat lady on a bus.
Contemplate what all that could mean, and we'll have the whole sorry tale for you as soon
as I work out this HTML editor.

After Grapevine went into hibernation, there was still enough interest, e-mails and letterbombs to
warrant opening up the discussion on reviving the mag in some shape or form. On April 10th,
1999 the amigagrapevine list was started by yours truly. Nearly 5 years of recodes, bitching
and dead ends later, here we are. Ah .. is the karaoke free again? ....The only way is up ....
baby ... for you and me now ...
