From arpa!emmy.umd.edu!dna Fri Dec 9 12:26:48 EST 1988 Date: Fri, 9 Dec 88 12:26:48 EST From: "Doug Arnold" To: dongarra@anl-mcs.arpa, ehg@research.att.com Subject: Problem with Netlib index Cc: lucier@newton.math.purdue.edu This is to report omissions in one of the Netlib indices. Specifically, there are two contributions to Netlib by Bradley Lucier and myself, which are not indexed. These are amstexsiam -- a style file for SIAM journals for AmSTeX imappt -- a style file for IMA preprints for AmSTeX These can be retrieved from either netlib@anl-mcs.arpa or netlib@research.att.com by *either* of the commands send amstex from typesetting. send imappt from typesetting. *or* send amstex from siam. send imappt from siam. This is as it should be. However the index doesn't show these entries. The two commands "send index from typesetting" and "send index from siam" both return the same index, which I append below. Note there is no mention of either file. These files have been available from Netlib for a long time, so this is apparently not a temporary situation. Could it be fixed? Thanks. -- Douglas N. I'm not sure who to send this to so I'm sending it to ehg@research and dongarra@mcs (Jack, "who is dongarra" is still returning this address!). If I should send it elsewhere, please let me know. The attached file replaces the imappt style file ("send imappt from typesetting"). In a separate message is a replacement for the AmSTeX SIAM style file ("send amstex from typesetting). From WILMA.WHARTON.UPENN.EDU!SIAMPUBS Wed Nov 6 17:54 EDT 1991 From howard Thu Nov 7 11:22:52 EST 1991 I looked over the current siam.sty. I'm sure they must have had reasons for each of the changes, so I'd be inclined to try to use their new stuff to see if there are any problems. Unfortunately, it looks like lfonts.tex wimps out and doesn't work for things like $a_{\bf i}$ (it puts the i in 10pt bold)---perhaps they needed to save font memory. I don't know how else to fix it other than how they did, though I'd prefer them to come before the \@options command, so that they could be overridden by style files. ------m siampubs@wharton.upenn.edu Thu Nov 7 14:04:44 EST 1991 From-: Eric Grosse 908-582-5828 To-: siampubs@wharton.upenn.edu Date-: Thu Nov 7 13:59:27 EST 1991 Subject: New SIAM macros Paul, Howard Trickey (at my request) made one change to your siam.sty, to improve the indention in the description (list) environment. This follows more closely the SIAM style as far as we see it in your journals in contrast to simply taking the LaTeX article style as we'd done originally. I hope you'll adopt the change in your own copy, or give us one even better. The new version is \def\descriptionlabel#1{\bf #1} \def\description{\list{}{\labelwidth10pt \let\makelabel\descriptionlabel}} \let\enddescription\endlist Netlib here is now distributing your new version (with the description change); I'll soon ship that to the other copies of netlib. I hope this will remove a source of confusion for authors and the publishing staff caused by multiple "official" versions circulating. Best wishes, Eric .
