China has built its first supercomputer, as was revealed by

China Pictorial.}
The development of this
machine, which has the appearance of a CRAY-1 computer,
started in 1978 at the University of Defense, Science and
Technology in Changsa.

{\bf Performance:}
The YH-1 (Galaxy), as it is called,
can execute 100 million operations per second.

{\bf Status:}
According to

China Pictorial 
}, the YH-1 was
finished two years ahead of schedule and at only one-fifth
of the planned budget.
