.nr VS 12 .nf .fi Dear Please find enclosed a 9-track tape created 1600 bpi., in EBCDIC format, 80 characters per card, and 40 cards per block. The tape has eighteen files; The first file contains a program and subroutines to measure timing for the LINPACK routines for solving a dense system of equations in single precision. The second file is the same as the first only in double precision. The third file is the "better" way to do LU decomposition in single precision, this is the software used in the third table of my report. The fourth file is the double precision version of the third. The fifth file allows you to provide your own LU decomposition routine and solve a 1000 by 1000 problem. The sixth file is the same as the fifth only in double precision. File seven contains a benchmark program to study indirect addressing in single precision. The eight file is the same as the seventh only in double precision. The ninth file contains a benchmark to look at how well a compiler vectorizes some standard loops. Files ten through eighteen are copies of the first nine. To run the timing programs you will need to supply the function SECOND, which when called reports elapse time. No input is performed and only a few lines of output are generated. These programs are in the public domain and can be freely used and distributed. .sp 2 .nr VS 12 .in +5.5 Best Regards, .sp 2 Jack J. Dongarra Mathematics and Computer Science Division .
