(for a given binary distribution ) ftp> get calib.tar.gz ............ ftp> quit % c) If you retrieved the set of files ??.01SEPpl1.3.tar.gz you will have to reconstruct the original 01SEPpl1.3.tar.gz file: % cat ??.01SEPpl1.3.tar.gz > 01SEPpl1.3.tar.gz % rm ??.01SEPpl1.3.tar.gz d) Print the MIDAS installation document: % uncompress installunix.ps.gz % lpr -P installunix.ps e) Uncompress and un-tar the 01SEPpl1.3 release of MIDAS, and patch files if available in consecutive order (first 1.3-1.4 then 1.4-1.5 etc..) % gunzip -c 01SEPpl1.3.tar.gz | tar xvf - % gunzip -c patch01SEPpl*.tar.gz | tar xvf - % rm -f 01SEPpl1.3.tar.gz patch01SEP* f) MIDAS installation: Read the MIDAS installation document. But if you can not resist the temptation, here is a quick reference: % cd /01SEPpl1.3/install/unix % ./config ........... Select: 5 (preinstall MIDAS) ........... Select: 2,3 or 4 (select MIDAS packages) ........... Select: 6 (install MIDAS) ........... (See NOTE) Do you want to check the OS library [yn]? (y): y ........... Do you want to continue [yn]? (y): y ........... Running install in background Results are coming in /01SEPpl1.3/tmp/install. ........... Select: 8 (setup MIDAS) ........... Select: q (quit config) % The MIDAS installation is now beeing executed in background and logged in a temporary file. To trace the execution of the installation procedure try: % tail -f /01SEPpl1.3/tmp/install. When the installation is finished, you can continue with the MIDAS setup: % alias inmidas /01SEPpl1.3/system/unix/inmidas % alias gomidas /01SEPpl1.3/system/unix/gomidas % alias helpmidas /01SEPpl1.3/system/unix/helpmidas Create and move to a temporary area: % cd % mkdir tmp ; cd tmp % inmidas MIDAS Unit 00 taken. ........ Midas 001> @ compile.all ............ % gomidas ........... Midas 002> @ ascii_bin ........... Midas 003> bye g) That's all (or almost). There are man pages for the "inmidas" & "gomidas" scripts in the /01SEPpl1.3/system/unix directory. h) Please, read the MIDAS installation document for a more complete installation of this release of MIDAS. i) Backup the complete MIDAS system on tape. j) Optional: installing the 'calib' and 'demo' data: % cd % gunzip -c demo_data.tar.gz | tar xvf - % gunzip -c calib.tar.gz | tar xvf - If you got 'calib' as a binary package for your platform, it is then ready for use. If you got 'calib' in sources, you install it for you platform by executing: % cd /calib/install (In C-Shell environment:) % setenv MIDASHOME /midas (or equivalent) % source dbassign.csh (In Bourne-Shell environment:) % MIDASHOME=/midas ; export (or equivalent) % . dbassign.sh % inmidas Midas 001> @@ caldb (all calibration tables) Midas 001> @@ filters (all filter tables) Midas 002> bye Technical Support and Network Services -------------------------------------- ESO is not in the position to give active support to individual users outside research institutions to support ESO-MIDAS installations on PC/Linux systems.
