graffiti magazines

People have been photographing graffiti as a way to keep a historical record since its inception. As a natural extension, in the early 1980s, avid graffiti artists, fans, and photographers began creating magazines to document the culture on a larger scale. As the 80s became the 90s, the graffiti culture continued to grow and the costs associated with publishing magazines declined steadily. Today, there are estimated to be hundreds of graffiti magazines, and keeping track of them all is a full time job. These pages are devoted to that documentation. To learn more about the various graffiti zines, just explore the links below.

_gz_index_header(Comments and Questions) If you have comments or questions feel free to send them along to _gz_maintainer_name. However, before sending your question, please read the Frequently Asked Questions section in order to save both of us time. I try to answer all reasonable questions and requests -- however, keep in mind that the more involved the question, the more time it takes to answer.

_gz_index_header(Contributing, contributing) These pages rely on your contributions. Whether you are an editor of a graffiti magazine or just a reader, you can help! By following the procedure outlined here, you will make it easier for me to process your information.

Please follow the appropriate procedure:

_gz_listitem(Adding a Magazine) Before going into the submission process, take note of the following: If you are adding a magazine, you can either review it yourself or submit it for review. To submit a magazine for review, you should send it to the following address:
    Campus Box 5458
    6515 Wydown Boulevard
    St. Louis, Missouri 63105

If you choose to review a magazine yourself, keep in mind that a review is more than just writing your opinion of the magazine. You need to provide all of the following information:

Additionally, if the following information is available, you should try to include it as well:

Additionally, include a review of the magazine if you like. Be aware that it will probably be edited for consistency (so it looks like other reviews) and content (no censorship, just removal of fluff). If you are submitting information for a zine which you edit, you should submit an objective free-form description of the magazine instead of a review.

You can submit magazine cover images as well (through email). However, try to use a high resolution and a good image format (GIF or JPEG at 800x600 or so is excellent) -- I will worry about making sure the image is small enough in size for use online. Grainy images are not of any use.

When you have finished with the above, please mail it to _gz_maintainer_email. _gz_listitem(Updating or Enhancing Existing Magazine Information) If you have corrections or new information (including new reviews) for existing magazines, you can just send mail. Make sure to indicate which magazine the information pertains to. More importantly, make sure that your information is in fact more current and accurate than the information already available online.

Please follow the guidelines mentioned above for submission of magazine covers. _gz_listitem(Removing a Magazine) Magazine information is never entirely "removed" from the graffiti zines list. Instead, the address of the magazine is changed to "out of print". If you know of a magazine on the list that is now out of print but still has its address listed, send mail.
