Replying to a message:
---------------------

In order to reply to an e-mail message from an editor (via MPEJ),
simply use the regular "reply" function of your mail program.
Your reply will then be forwarded by MPEJ
(after keeping a copy for the records)
to the editor that sent the original message,
and MPEJ will acknowledge receipt of your message,
including in its reply (and in the forwarded mail)
a number of the form "MPEJ Ref YY.NN" for future reference.

If your mailing program does not have a (standard) "reply" facility,
an alternative way of replying is to take the reference number
from the header line "Subject: MPEJ Ref YY.NN"
of the original e-mail message,
and to include it in your message (reply) in the form

REPLYINGTO: MPEJ Ref YY.NN

The same can be used e.g. if you want to reply later
and still remember the reference number
but do not have the original message readily available.


Sending a message:
-----------------

You can forward a message to NAME by including a line of the form

FORWARD: NAME

where NAME is the name of an MPEJ editor, in the form "John Doe"
(without the quotes),
or "J. Doe", or "J Doe", or simply "Doe", if not ambiguous.

Alternatively, the NAME can be specified by putting "forward NAME"
in the "Subject:" line (part of the mail header) of your e-mail message.

In order to simplify our task of keeping records,
messages are forwarded only if they specify a "valid subject".
This can be done by including a line of the form

SUBJECT: X

where X is a recognized MPEJ subject.
In particular, X="new manuscript" if you are submitting a paper to MPEJ
(for details see the file submit-paper).

For correspondence between authors and editors,
and between editors and referees: X="MPEJ YY-NN" (without the quotes)
where YY-NN is the manuscript number (e.g. 95-17).

For comments and/or questions that are not (!)
related to a particular manuscript, use X=comment and/or X=question.

In case you use the regular "reply" facility of your mail program:
Iff you reply does not contain a "SUBJECT:" line
then it automatically inherits
the "SUBJECT:" of the original message.
