@clive I learned right from left by picturing a particular pedestrian bridge in my hometown where the teachers told everyone to stay to the right when crossing. There are still a few times I have to stop for half a second and bring that (quit vivid) image back into my mind before deciding on the right word.

@clive I think if I had only taken "serious" classes at university it would have seriously stressed me out. Doing random low-stress stuff like (re)learning rock identification was a nice change of pace and kept the homework load manageable.That said some of the electives I took had teachers who took themselves waaay too seriously without the chops to back that up (ask me my Philosophy 101 rant)

Most importantly it's awful mathematically.Their guide divides pretty people pictures into different score buckets. Above avg. goes 1/50,000, 1/20,000, 1/3000, 1/750, 1/160, 1/40, 1/15, 1/6, 1/3. Same for below avg (bucket size for perfectly avg. people not listed).Astute algebra enthusiasts may notice that if you divide something into non-overlapping buckets the probabilities should add up to 100%. This adds up to 120%. Not including the avg. bucket.

and then their rating guide is... oof.They say both men and women should have "prominent zygomatic processes". This appears to be the weirdo incel word for "cheekbone". Men should have "hunter eyes" (I currently have eyeroll eyes), while women should have "almond eyes" (wait isn't this actually pretty racist too??).Not to mention their guide's top prettiest people pics are all from pro photoshoots (e.g. probably photoshopped, definitely good lighting).

@clive The reporter seemed a bit credulous when using a proprietary AI detection tool to detect what text was written by AI or not. Good marketing for Originality.ai I guess tho... (aside: what is it with silicon valley and quirky TLDs?)I personally prefer the "Zoe" test, where I read something and decide by myself if it's worthless garbage or not without asking an AI at all.Overall good article though.

@clive One of the first things I did after getting home internet access back in the '90s was searching for a Cow Tipping Simulator. Which lead me to a Java applet (as was the style at the time) where you could view and rotate a 3D model of a cow.Sometimes I think about all that stuff that was online but is now lost to time.
