remeber when gnome was awesomethey even forked gnome 2 but you don’t hear about mate anymore. still hangs around as an also-ran ubuntu flavor.I’m digging Omarchy. turnkey Arch + Hyprlandthey just posted version 3. I can live with default keybindings. Super+W to close a window is same as Apple Command+W. such a pleasure to use. it’s like late 90s Apple made a tiling WM.

full disclosure I spend $26 a month to operate nightshift.social. that includes domain name renewal divided by 12.basic hosting. plus a secondary drive that mounts to /memes for all the uploads to get dumped to so it doesnt clog the main system.it’s less than a dollar a day yet I get so much more value from the interactions.

when you realize one decent box can run multiple VMs and docker containers, have 2 nic, run router and firewall software, and also be an access point with a wireless card.but you hooked on 1 foot patch cables and blinking lights.

I have a 1u that will seat 4 raspberry pi’s or other SBC that fit the form factor. one of them is an arm based “le potato”. I have some sort of BSD I installed just to ssh into. no Xserver no DE.but I installed the text based adventures package that is in the repository.so I will VNC from my work Macintosh to my home Macintosh and then ssh into that shitty arm sbc and play the text based adventures.it’s retarded but I like being retarded.

I’ve had good luck with Tailscale.I used to rely on ddns on my synology to get a constant path back to my home lan. but it wasn’t consistent.openvpn. same thing. it would work for months and then break.which is funny because I have clients I’ve set up on openvpn and it’s been solid for years.gui can be fun. I’d bet you would love Omarchy.

VGA is the lords video mode (the standard not the connector)I had a UXGA Dell branded Sony Trinitron in the XP days that only had a DE-15 connector But that’s not VGA even though the physical connection is called so.
