Like the books were a huge part of my childhood and they tossed everything except the name and the vague idea of being Viking themed, so I'm biased, but it just feels like another boy and his dog movie to me

Honestly no matter how good the movies might be i'll never be able to get over them ignoring dragonese tbh, like thats?? the entire premise of the series??? It's like if chris columbus had been like "yeah we're adapting the harry potter books, they have a lot of potential but we don't feel like hogwarts is important to the plot so we're just gonna cut it"

Also I realise this is just turning into a long thread of me complaining that the movies aren't exactly like the books but WHILE I'M BITCHING, everyone seems to really like the art style and I haaate it. Like the dragon designs themselves are fine but the animation in general is just so bland and edgeless. The illustrations were such a big part of the books and they were sketchy and intentionally kind of ugly and had a quentin blake feel to them that matched and reinforced the tone of the books and they just kind of ditched that in favour of 3D disney-a-like stuff

@anna yeah I expect so, plus I'm not exactly an Animation Expert so I'm mostly just going off gut feeling here - and my gut is super biased on account of the "MY SACRED CHILDHOOD MEMORIES" factorI will say that I think the dragon designs are interesting and I'd probably really like them if I'd encountered them in a different movie, but it's hard for me to judge them objectively because I loved Cressida Cowel's drawings so much and they're so completely different

@xeno NOPE, no snot, it's all fairly... nice. It doesn't even seem to rain, they make the island seem like a pretty nice holiday spot tbhI actually don't know if the books were obscure or not - you'd assume they'd have to be decently popular to get a dreamworks deal but I never actually met anyone else who read them. Then again I'm in Northern Ireland so we're not exactly the center of the cultural universe here lol

@xeno @bxtchimSMOKE @anna it does for me, but I guess most rhymes depend on your accent? I'm still not 100% over finding out door and paw don't rhyme for some people so I'm probably not the person to ask
