Finally gotten time to play with #ergoServices. An #erlang #OTP compatible framework for #golang. ๐ŸคฏIt feels like you writting type specs on #elixir but strongly defined. Haven't dive deep into its use just yet, but already have plans... ๐Ÿ˜ŽThe thing I'm building right now is for it be a bridge to infrastructure as code tooling from Go. Using elixir for the business logic and go portion as the connection with ergo.https://github.com/ergo-services/ergo

My brain today: Oh, you wanted to just use #firecracker on your #nomad clusters? ๐Ÿคฃ Let me show you this shiny open sourced thing from #cloudflare called #workerd. ๐Ÿ˜Ž You know, so you can write everything with a target of #wasm. Thus adding just an extra layer of containers to your system. ๐Ÿ˜‰https://blog.cloudflare.com/workerd-open-source-workers-runtime/?utm_source=pocket_mylist

@cassidyjames yeah, that's just dirty. ๐Ÿค The worst part is there has to be a market that accepts those adverts for it to be there. These companies keep trying to lower the bar of discency. ๐Ÿ™ƒ

Been slowly cleaning up my todos for each month. ๐Ÿงน This month is no exception. Now I got it down to almost only essentials. 60~ tasks. The idea is to get the list as lean as possible. Then, start adding. Ramping up on my personal projects without burning out. ๐ŸงฏOtherwise, chaos reigns. ๐ŸŒช๏ธ Too many to dos and too little time to do them. ๐Ÿ˜…

Do yourself a favor and learn the #DNS protocol. I don't mean use a tool. Learn the RFC that make it. ๐Ÿ“– Like #RFC1464. Sure DNS has limitations. Nevertheless, the amount you can do with one of the earliest backbones of the internet is immense. ๐ŸŒŒ Especially if you understand how the implementation of it works. ๐Ÿ˜‰https://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc1464.txt

Ugh, I just updated my version of #neovim to 8.0 and broke my setup. ๐Ÿ˜ฉ Version is amazing, but I wasn't ready for the update. Time to go and update my configs on LSP stuff for it...๐Ÿซ Note to self: don't do `nix profile upgrade '. *' ` on Monday morning unless you ready. ๐Ÿ™ƒ

@mike why not try something like withings steel HR? It does a few weeks of battery life if I'm not mistaken. And seems to cover the same points you brought up. https://www.withings.com/us/en/steel-hr

I find it kind of interesting that there are a few #elixir based #ActivityPub servers out there.Personally I like the work being done by @bonfire for #Bonfire. Should probably take time to contribute more... ๐Ÿ˜…

#bluesky now calling their social network protocol, #atproto. Have to look into the design of the spec to say what it'll take to implement. ๐Ÿ”But at the same time, I still very much believe #ActivityPub is simple enough to utilize over others. The simplicity is what's allowed for a number of creative usecases already. ๐Ÿ˜Ž https://blueskyweb.xyz/blog/10-18-2022-the-at-protocol

And of course they have to make their own wire protocol called #xrpc. ๐Ÿ™ƒ Using #thrift, #avro, #grpc, or even #CBOR directly was too difficult... Have to make it completely new requiring all new libraries and implementions to get something half started. ๐Ÿ˜ฎโ€๐Ÿ’จhttps://atproto.com/specs/xrpc

I do like #bluesky use of #DID for identity. With domains being the username. This most likely means that sub domains and sub sub domains are going to get even more interesting in #atproto. https://atproto.com/guides/identity

Overall, I don't think #bluesky's #atproto holds much value as it currently stands.๐Ÿ˜… One of the reasons why #ActivityPub has been able to grow organically is because of the community.๐Ÿ™† ActivityPub may have shortcomings, but it's still so immensely empowering. #Atproto doesn't seem focused on the social part of a social network and more of how to run a big site.๐Ÿฆ It may help #Twitter, but not the actual #fediverse.

@apparentlymart this is what I'm thinking too after looking through the spec. The small - big world terms absolutely scream of massive clusters to handle the big world usecases. ๐Ÿข#ActivityPub has a discovery problem, but I don't believe this requires a separate index server just for that. If each instance has a way to have discovery managed, then the collective connections can get the reference. https://atproto.com/guides/overview#achieving-scale

I still very much think #xmpp is pretty darn good. Development on the IM standard has kept going. Even after the corps came in and gobbled mindshare for it. ๐Ÿ˜ก The protocol is still powerful and can actually support mobile usage. ๐Ÿ“ฑServers have gotten considerably better. Hell #MongooseIM 6 has #GraphQL api now.๐Ÿคฏ What I'm saying, don't take #matrix as the only alternative we have to the proprietary ones. https://github.com/esl/MongooseIM/releases/tag/6.0.0

All I wanted was to update this service to use #golang 1.19 from 1.16.๐Ÿ˜Ž Should be quick work. I can finally use generics like I wasn't crippled by go.๐Ÿ˜…Instead ci fixes to the end of time... To be fair, the packages didn't need much changes per say. But the build and tools used at work... โšฐ๏ธ

CI builds get so utterly complicated. It's why I favor #nix. You get an absolute with all the dependencies, cache, environment, and releases. ๐Ÿ˜…Still, options are now alone to do nix on CI. A small list of tools that to help in this world:- #daggerci code ci- #earthlyci dsl ci- #nix dsl for artifacts- #dhall yaml generation- #cue yaml generation

Curious how the #gitea fork #forgejo grows.๐Ÿค” Already there's a divergence with gitea actions. While forgejo seems to be thinking better integration with solutions instead. I'm expecting even more differences as time goes by.I'm interested to see how each handles federation.

@a awesome! Hopefully they accept the patch. ๐Ÿ˜Ž As you stated, the more forges that are federated and interoperable the better.
