@calculsoberic @stux Yeah, that is what I don't enjoy about Mastodon. I don't want to sign up for many instances. I want simplicity of experience, not complexity.

People keep saying "The instance doesn't matter!" But when I click on a friend and see who they are Following, I get this... so clearly it does matter.

One of the main ways I find people to follow is to look at my friends and see who they follow; inevitably I will find mutuals that I didn't even know where on the platform. Super useful.

The entire point of corporations is "make as much money as possible." They are not altruistic, trying to give fair value for price. They figure out the highest price you are willing to pay, then figure out the cheapest way to make it. The gap there is profit. Which is the goal.

What holds corporations in check is government regulations. The more we strip regulations, the greater profit for corporations, and the more they can deliver less value for higher prices. The worse it is for consumers.
