Was just struck by what an optimistic view “You want a picture of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face — for ever”. In 100 years, there won’t be sufficiently organized human civilization to support boot production. Maybe a moccasin or some kind of wooden clog stamping on a human face forever but boots? I’ve always been vaguely frustrated by ads at just like an abstract level. Maybe it’s cause they were always interrupting transformers episodes when I was a kid? Either way, it’s just now occurring to me that ads more than an annoyance really are the life blood of the growth at all costs burn the earth down monstrosity that is capitalism.

If you want innovation, you have to kill capitalism. The ROI on ads completely swamps actual research. Why is productivity growth flat? Cause capital will not invest in anything more than a pittance on anything other than ads, and why would they? That wouldn’t be a good investment.

I think directly supporting folks is very important but maybe also throw a few bucks to the ACLU and Lambda Legal? Despite the current make up of the Supreme Court they’re still achieving harm mitigation victories like this injunction against the Texas bullshit (disclosure: I used to work at the ACLU)

@Anarkat This is so important! This is an accessibility issue. Many folks with disabilities are unable to work in office. They need remote but have never been taken seriously. By insisting on doing your job remotely, you are standing in solidarity with them. Disabled people have been asking for work from home for decades but no one took it seriously till the pandemic.
