@ajroach42 I've never heard of wurb. I thought https://ifdb.tads.org/ was the best place to go these days.http://Twinery.org/ has people post their stuff there, and a lot of the Twine games aren't downloadable -- they're just web things.

@njoseph Unfortunately, one of the things the free-software community has to deal with are people like me. Highly opinionated former sysadmins who hate on both the product as well as the user-community. "There are idiots pushing for stupid designs."There are people like me on other platforms, but in the free software world, we can be a lot more disruptive. We don't have to just suck up what's released from the OS distributor. We're also disagreeable with each other.

@kelbot @ajroach42 I think of it more like, "None of these other solutions have solved the issues people have had."Technically, Slack did solve the issue with spam, but the solution there was to ignore everyone but your specific circle. That's a bit of a sledgehammer. If you treat your email inbox like a messaging client, "this message is older than <x> days" becomes "this message is deleted without being read." That's much simpler to deal with.

@gunner I am a professional Java developer as my day job. I loathe the language. At one time it was my most hated programming language. But I like where I work, and it was either be a Java developer or be a systems administrator for RHEL, and I hate Red Hat more than I hate Java. For "something you can write phone/tablet apps in" I normally favor Javascript. Everybody needs to learn it for something, and these days even desktop apps like Visual Studio: Code are written in it.

@gunner Most languages, once you add in popular frameworks, are huge and complicated. You might consider having a specific goal for what you want to accomplish with it, and then working specifically toward that goal.We live in an era where things like the Project Lombok redefine the look and feel of the language itself. Without a clear goal it will be hard to measure your success. There is no finish line for "learn Java," and precious few milestones to gauge progress.

@gunner If you're interested in human / computer art collaboration, https://deepdreamgenerator.com is a lot of fun right now (it is how I made my avatar), and https://runwayapp.ai/ looks interesting in the future. There's a whole host of stuff you can investigate on GitHub, too.
