I’m TA’ing a network media class right now, and the thing I am the most surprised that students don’t often understand is that a url is a file path. They’re also very confused by relative file paths. That seems like the most basic thing to me but I find we need to keep revisiting it.

I guess this is a side effect of spending so much time in apps that have done away with links?

Still fiddling with this roguelike experiment. I got creeping plants working with the box drawing tiles, but I may make some viney-er looking tiles. It's a delicate balance to not break the style with too much detail though.

@stefan @liaizon initial release of HyperCard was 1987 and this is dated later!

@liaizon @stefan @HXLNT and I had a thought experiment for some art projects about an alternate reality with some AppleTalk-descended networking instead of tcp-ip and HyperCard as the first browser

@liaizon @stefan definitely people had been talking about hypertext since the mother of all demos, but the origin of “card” would be a good indicator of who was influencing who.

@detondev Back in the day I would have said that a browser was adding different inherent padding or positioning to body and you should add a reset to the top of your css, but nowadays that's unusual. There might be some kind of browser plugin adding a small hidden div to every page or something. You can try a reset anyway. Try checking body and html in the web inspector for styles and for any extra injected divs.

@futurebird I feel like my whole life would have been different if I could have had a teacher like you in grade school!
