Did migrating from bsky to blacksky break my mastodon bridge? Let's see:

@lightweight am no expert/don't seek to speak on anyone's behalf, but my understanding:Current largest (only?) live alt implementation of bsky's AT ProtocolInteroperable, separate moderationAlternative home for Black Twitter due to significant racism experienced on mastodonNon-black allies can join, though @blacksky.community tags are for that community@cryptoanarchy.network & @myatproto.social PDSes open to all. Obviously can join and use a cosmetic tag (I picked @ruins.party) as with bsky

@lightweight as for why I joined? Beyond the black liberation movement being a cause I support broadly (black feminists taught me 🖤) and solidarity reasons, bluesky will remain centralised so long as their own implementation of the AT protocol is the only one with widespread adoption. Also, selfishly, if Twitter and base bluesky moderation has failed the one marginalised community, I expect they'll fail others. As a trans woman that could easily impact me.

@lightweight I've been thinking more and more that I need to build a home lab and start self-hosting, for a bunch of reasons and services. Perhaps I'll join you.

@strypey I generally feel similarly, though I think we should also be careful to acknowledge that the sports thing is not and has never been about sports. It's a wedge issue to drive far-right radicalisation, and a low-stakes way of broaching the subject of the removal of trans people from public life that acclimatises the public to having those discussions.

@strypey I think we're on the same page here, it's just a matter of finding ways to shut down the recruitment/radicalisation aspect and their ability to use these niche issues to shift the Overton window, while *also* not giving them undue weight.I think the strategy of pointing out how weird it is to obsess over such stuff is useful here."How does this policy help everyday New Zealanders, Mr Seymour?"Put the onus on them to explain why we should care.

@lightweight "Ed tech" seems to be corruption all the way down, honestly. Whether Google, Apple, or Microsoft, there's no reason teachers should be expected to acquire tech industry certification.

@strypey the fact that most of them are not in fact freely available was surprising to me

@ByronCinNZ oh I was just reading up on them because I was curious. As a lowly CS undergrad I knew of them mostly from stuff like ANSI C and ISO 8601. I was wondering how many of these standards there actually are...It seems the answer is quite a lot, of which only a small fraction are freely accessible to the public?Thank you. Your expertise is appreciated.

@strypey I've been using Fread, which *can* I believe do that, though I haven't actually tested the featureInstead I post to mastodon and let Skymoth do the x-posting (only own posts and replies to self though)And am on blacksky (cryptoanarchy.network PDS + vanity URL) rather than bluesky proper Slightly jank setup perhaps but it works for me 🤷🏻‍♀️
