@kaia Could you do a presentation about the value of extemporization? That is what I have to do if I am faced with something I have not been able to prepare for! It is also known as "making it up on the fly".

@EU_Commission Will past activities be investigated for Russian funding? For example, if Brexit occured due to such help, will it be open to invalidation?

@grammargirl As I work in a hospital, I've been offered every injection & accepted them all. This doesn't make me invulnerable, just less susceptible.I would say that before my first vaccination for it, I had covid twice - that I know of.Afterwards, none and I have been tested a LOT...It boils down to percentages but I would be even safer if I changed where I work!

@grammargirl If someone says to me "I could care less", my response is something like "good for you if you do care about it. I don't and I could not care any less".

@grammargirl Your article reminded me how people from the US do not pronounce "Python" correctly.I am now dealing with a number of people whose first language is not any form of English. I consider it polite to do my best to try and pronounce their name the way they do. The O in "Python" is not stressed or pronounced - comparable to the E in "hyphen".Just say "Pyth'n" and stress the sylable at the beginning please!

@grammargirl When I was listening to your recent podcast, I was walking our dog.I think whoever coined the phrase "dogged determination" had a dog like mine.

@grammargirl In the (southern) UK we generally get or letters in a separate delivery from parcels. Then, of course, we get our Amazon and other similar stuff at any time.

@grammargirl I don't think it is local but I have always tented to use the word "splodge". This is the same word as when a child throws a ball of mud at a wall.

@kaia An awful lot of Hoolywood "historical" ones but I suppose they are mostly anti-British and that is a very different thing!

@grammargirl I think I would avoid watching it in the same way I avoid watching boxing on TV and have never seen a cage fight.

@grammargirl I haven't had a podcast player that shows the individual episode art for ages. Sometimes, I don't even get the notes.I tend to listen to podcasts when commuting or when walking the dog. I just have them queued up on the app and they either feed to the car audio or a little set of headphones.I believe this is asynchronous media consumption.

@grammargirl You could try the other hand? When I proke my right wrist a few weeks into college, I spent a long time using my other hand. As I was in the OTC, this included saluting. My, English teacher, mother liked to employ a malapropism by telling all her friends that I was amphibious!

@grammargirl I am just back from walking my dog and listening to Episode 953I think one of the reasons that nobody else uses "gotten" if because it doesn't seem to mean the same as "got" and we are not quite sure when to use it.For example, I could say "I've got a bit of money in my pocket" but I think using gotten there wouldn't mean quite the same. Is this something you could explain to those of us outside the USA please?

@grammargirl I heard an example of the US military not understanding our slang. One of the things armies do is go and have a look at something and report back. The term is "reconaissance". It gets shortened to "recce".In Afghanistan some british soldiers on a road bwere usure how safe it was further along. They asked a B52 above to "have a recce up the road and let them know."Shortly, it told them that it had wrecked the entire area and were now leaving as they'd used all their bombs!

@grammargirl Back to "civvy" life, as well as gadgets, we also have gizmos and widgets. The latter were small devices that were put it into cans of beer to make them nicer. They now mean any gadget you don't actually see.And as for words from UK TV, my favourite is "cromulent". I have been known to use this one myself to explain that something is perfectly satisfactory and functional. I haven't had anyone admit to never having watched Blackadder yet!
