Realized back in March our Android app for anonymous posting is no longer available to install on newer devices. So I spent a little time updating it to the latest Android APIs today. Should have it on the Play Store soon.

Eight years later, and just sent our anonymous-only Android app out for review! Hopefully that'll get approved in the next few days.Some minor changes:- Renamed app to "Write.as Anon." to show that this is only for anonymous publishing- Updated Settings- Follow us on Mastodon, not TwitterAnd some unfortunate changes:- Removed Tor support (the library we used is outdated / I'm not sure how to update)- Backups won't persist after uninstalls (too much wrestling w/ new permissions)

Going to remove support for #Twitter cross-posting from Write.as in the near future. Of the many, many issues that have developed there over the last several months, it is simply run by someone who makes disruptive decisions on a whim, employs anti-competitive tactics, and has undermined its reliability. The overall cost of maintaining our integration far outweighs any benefits left, so that'll end soon.

Ultimately, we face too much daily spam from non-paid users and bots that make it hard for our small team (me, @matt) to do much of anything else besides fight them off. So temporarily closing Free accounts is the easiest way to slow the tide a bit. After a little progress elsewhere, I'm sure we'll open up Free accounts again in the future.
