@stux it boils my head than the "Green" Party in the UK are anti-nuclear. Sure, ideally we wouldn't have nuclear but we needed to be much, much, further ahead on other renewable power sources by now. Nuclear offers a relatively clean solution albeit with a different but pretty manageable downside. Given the choice between sealed off nuclear waste for a few millennium or the end of current civilisation I'll take option 1.

@stux thatās weird take.. we all understand that open protocols will give a route for *any* content (which it broadly should) but we absolutely do not need to engage with or encourage that which we assess to be dangerous.

Weāve collectively let our guard down and so many people just donāt know how to spot misinformation, recognise being deliberately mislead, and consistently fail to question what is being presented to them. But thatās slow and expensive & doesnāt result in pithy sound bites for politicians so it doesnāt happen š

@stux I think itās simple. Generative AI is awful and damaging. Pattern-matching number-crunching AI in fields of research is fantastic. One seeks to enrich, and save, lives. Another seeks to pillage lives. They are not the same.

@stux absolutely! I forget the number but I also heard that once an AI was thrown at radio telescope data it found more exotic-planets in a few months that human had been able to sift out of the data since we started looking. In these contexts is extremely powerful and THAT is where the billions of funding would make a real impact. Instead we have OpenAI saying āwe want to scoop up all your data and expect to make a $1bn lossā. Crazy.
