@blinry yep, I did the same eight years ago. 😄 so far, no regrets (but also no umlauts anymore).

@blinry Nö, für Umlaute / längere deutsche Texte benutze ich den Desktop-PC, der noch eine deutsche Tastatur hat. 🙂

@strypey This is for user registration only. We are also experimenting to completely remove reCAPTCHA from issues and merge requests: https://gitlab.com/gitlab-org/gitlab/issues/29830

@rugk @cj At GitLab we use the feature in GitLab to prevent people from overwriting changes in binary files that cannot be merged (typically design assets).I agree that for plain text files it creates more problems than it solves. For the case where you want individuals to approve changes to certain files, GitLab has the concept of code owners: https://docs.gitlab.com/ee/user/project/code_owners.htmlNaturally this becomes a bottle neck if only few people are owners.

@rugk Assuming that mirroring would also mean same issue numbers, what would be the expected behavior if two issues are created at the same time on GitHub and GitLab?

@rugk Also I know that Spam in issues has been a problem lately on gitlab.com. I assume for the mirroring you would have a bot account that transfers issue content. In that case you can no longer block the spam account because the bot happily transfers the stuff in its own name. 😬

@blinry I used Kotlin last year and can really recommend it. It was a lot of private fun for each pair: https://gitlab.com/winniehell/adventofcode-2019/blob/a277c0b6476ddf2585aef626f51ee9023a62e668/src/main/kotlin/day10/AsteroidMap.kt#L15

@thor @blinry It is the same in other languages (such as JavaScript or Java). But of course it would be boring if Kotlin stays consistent with those. Therefore they have chosen to make it the "assert not-null" operator which throws an exception if the expression was null but otherwise continues to operate on a non-nullable type: https://kotlinlang.org/docs/reference/null-safety.html#the--operatorIn TypeScript this would just be ! (at the end of an expression): https://www.typescriptlang.org/docs/handbook/advanced-types.html#nullable-types

@thor I think @blinry was referring to the !! operator in the Kotlin code I linked above, not the !! operator in C. 🙂

There is a small building to your right with a window wide open. A scent of cookies with some addition unknown to you reaches your nose. Whatever it is, it must be delicious and you suddenly realize how hungry you are. As you move closer to that building you start to hear a strange noise. A few more steps until you find out that it's a hoarse voice singing. Intertwined with the cloud of cookiness, a happy song sneaks out the window. You hesitate in front of the door, unsure what to do next.#pollstory #TootFic
