@JordiGH What's hurtful and dangerous is lopping off perfectly healthy sexual organs from children and then pumping them full of hormones for the sake of conformity to the spirit of the age. "Watch What is A Woman." It's on Odysee for free.

@arh The actual argument was that the drugs in his system lead to his death in a situation where a sober person wouldn't die, not that his life wasn't worth anything due to his status as a drug user.

@dave Isn't being upset by bias and partiality in /r/politics something we should have given up on in 2011 or so?

@wjmaggos You want the only people to have guns be the class of people most likely to be suffering from PTSD. The VA also sucks at everything. If you feel like you can't trust other people with guns, buy one yourself and learn how to use it.

@wjmaggos What's ridiculous is the idea you'd prefer the gunman be uninhibited when he gets his gun illegally.

@wjmaggos Other countries of 330 million people with about a billion guns in circulation currently? Which ones?

@realcaseyrollins @wjmaggos Generally young men going through a meaning crisis without strong family roots, religious morality, direction, or support systems see mass shootings as a fairly direct way to make their lives notable. Preventing those situations is a meaningful conversation. The media sure doesn't want to have it though; they're obsessed with taking whitey's guns and using new shootings for clicks

@wjmaggos @realcaseyrollins "You're blinded by your ideology" is uniformly a really bad take. It assumes the speaker exists in a space of objective rationality, which is peak hubris and demonstrates zero self-awareness.Yes, I believe in things. So do you. This establishes nothing.

@cy @wjmaggos @realcaseyrollins I'm sure you have a very thoughtful assessment of traditional religious morality that isn't at all informed by your hipster bubble in Portland

@icedquinn I just don't think this is very moral. The person getting their sixth hip replacement with government money may very well have fought in the war and worked on the factory floor for 50 years. What they have traded for a healthy body now is, hopefully: wisdom, experience, insight. Michael Phelps can do incredible things with his body. I care a whole lot more what the foreman with 12 grandchildren and the mobility scooter thinks about tax policy than Michael Phelps.

@icedquinn Bluntly, yes. In an ideal world, they will have already fought in one so they would empathize with those they are sending to die, but we seem to be in the habit of putting career politicians, actors, and corporate leaders that have never served in power. I wish we had another Dwight Eisenhower running for president, but we'll never know he exists in the system we Americans have now.

@icedquinn Ideally that empathy will manifest as extreme hesitancy to send you to die in the first place, which I am sure you are in favor of.

@icedquinn But the idea that the people with the power should only be the young and healthy is just social Darwinism and will drain society of qualities that only come with age and experience, like long-term planning.

@icedquinn Guess that would keep medical and retirement costs down as senior citizens desperately try to keep themselves healthy enough to show up to work so they can keep voting.
