concept: Poison Ivy, but written to reflect most of the women in STEM i actually know, not somebody's sexy fantasybecause she isn't a conventionally pretty sexpot, she hides in plain sight to basically everyone - batman included - for a good long while. ('cause that mousy-dressing woman with the glasses is, like, the secretary, right? not important.)she still makes her own costume out of plants. with pitcher plants."nice costume," says batgirl"thanks, it has pockets!!!" she replies

i mean just ponder Poison Ivy, but with her hair up in a practical bun, sensible boots on (absolutely NO high heels or open-toed shoes are ALLOWED because of BASIC LAB SAFETY), who has made her plant costume into a sensible two-piece with pitcher plants at her hips that she can shove her hands into happily because pockets!!!(batgirl is low-key jealous. it looks so comfortable! nicely loose! and POCKETS!)

@Canageek you *could* but i'd think that runs slightly more of a risk of pantsing yourselfat least compared to, like, a dress with pockets. which is what i am envisioning because if you do a full skirt, you can shove all kinda shit in your pockets before it gets obvious, AND you get to twirly, so that's a win-win

@Canageek it is 10/10 incredibly worth it. idk how twirly kilts are due to fabric but if you find a like lightweight broomstick skirt that just happens to be in your size you can try on? do it. twirl. fuckin GREAT

also i would just like to make a controversial statement:bowsette is fine but if it's all "we've inexplicably made this strong, muscular character have pure lily white skin and legs with all the definition of hot dogs when femme'd, despite the original character being a downright bara icon of STRANTH", you a coward with shit tasteif bowsette can't crush heads with her thighs and take you to the gun show, It Ain't Right

"harp why are you choosing order in the final #splatoon2 splatfest, though"1. many things in life are acting in ordered systems, it's just multiple layers of complex ordered systems that ends up perceived as chaotic2. you could summarize the struggle of life itself as the act of fighting against entropy (e.g. chaos), from plants using sunlight as 'fuel' all the way up to higher levels of culture, history, etc.3. i like marina more

as the heatwave hits both america and europe, this is a handy infographic to pass aroundpeople who are elderly, young, or chronically ill are more susceptible to this!many head meds (SSRIs, etc) make this more likely as well!heatstroke can also come with confusion and other mental symptoms. if you see someone who is warm to the touch, not sweating, and acting oddly in this heat (especially if in categories of ppl at risk) - please help get them medical attention! heatstroke can kill!

WHAT PEOPLE THINK ETHICAL ISSUES IN AI ARE: wow.... we're creating... new life........WHAT ETHICAL ISSUES IN AI ACTUALLY ARE: techbros worshiping the almighty algorithm, not caring to look at what bad patterns the machines are picking up (racism, sexism, etc) and how to avert them, and overreliance on neural networks meaning that said algorithms are treated as magical black boxes where nobody wants to (or can, really) point out exactly how the equation works (and why it may be faulty)

basically if people would just carve off 5% of the sci-fi panic and anxiety and spend that energy being legitimately concerned about how if you tell a computer "learn the rules of this game", the rules it will come back to report to you will be dripping with systemic inequality that must be directly confronted instead of excused or praised as infallible because "a passionless computer did it"we'd all be much better off

quit worrying about if AI is going to be creating new consciousnessstart worrying about AI learning how to enforce things like redlining and the glass ceilingworry about it because *it's happening now*.

@reuters_worldnews i swear to fucking god every time you make a news reposting bot with no cws, you are declaring that your toes are forfeit and inviting all and sundry to come break into your house, chop all your toes off, cover all of your pets in non-toxic bubble gum in their fur, and shit in your kitchen sink

@InspectorCaracal the worst part is that for a lot of these social rules, the technology is being developed by people so sheltered and so lazy about it that they do not question if something's a bad choicethey don't know enough to look at, say, AI handling assessing risk of mortgages, to view the results and go "wait a second fellas, i think this is just redlining with extra steps". they go "oh, the computer has shown us the truth!" and are pleased to have their own racism reaffirmed.

@InspectorCaracal anyway it's about this point in Said Family Member's soapbox rant about how the majority of AI programming these days is shit that i claim the soapbox for myself, and start yelling about how this is what you get when you divorce STEM completely from the liberal arts and raise graduates on the idea that silly social sciences where you have empathy for other people or look at history and its effects are completely not needed when you have the ability to crunch numbers
