Merveilles, are we mostly white cis men? If yes (and I assume so because everything is) what can we do to expand our boundaries?

This is Tailer, a magpie that has started visiting me a few times a week. Tailer has a soft spot for sweet potato and was kind enough to let me take some photos this morning.

I played roguelikes quite a bit when I was younger - the balance between text/graphics allows for some very intricate behaviour in games like Nethack.

@grumpy netback is a lot easier to follow and interact with than DF. nethack has a certain quirkiness to it - one of the classes is Tourist and you start with a. Hawaiian shirt and camera. This screenshot is just a mockup, btw it's not actually nethack.

Last year I hoped to read 25+ books and clear out my bookshelves. I read 6!I used to read so much as a kid, now it takes me a month to get through some books. Maybe I'll aim for 12 this year.

If I continue posting dev progress/screenshots on what I'm working on, is it better to put it all in a single thread?

Has anyone heard of this book, The Planiverse? I read it as a teenager waiting for my mum in the university library and it stuck with me. I managed to track down a second hand copy! :DIt's set in a 2D world and frequently digresses to explain how things work. I love it.#theLibrary

Made 'farinata' today to break in a cast iron pan. This is the first time I've tried making it... just chickpea flour, water, oil and salt... my god it's good. #theGalley

the saga continues. the wiring in the engine compartment is shocking... so much of it doesn't even need to pass through there. still, it's good to be making progress again. just the bilge, interior lights, mast and whatever else is to the fore left, so feeling like I am over the hump. #theBoatyard

@neauoire it's encoded in the rules for the automata, but yes - it is doing a lot of figuring out as it goes. the updates are applied stochastically (50% chance a cell will update), and it was randomly damaged during training so it's fairly robust.

@neauoire neural cellular automata animation I think! if so, yes it learns to form the pattern from many (but not all) starting states.
