Well, this is embarrassing. I completely forget about this account. I have no idea when I created it. Time for me to start using it.

#fedihelp I am trying to solve a problem. I follow the linux hashtag which gets posts in multiple languages. I have my preferences set to only show posts in English, but I still see posts in non-English on my home feed. Is the language filter setting in Preferences -> Other only for the local and federated feeds, and not for the home feed?

Two week check-in. Using Linux as my every-day system is going smoother. I figured out the Forte Agent problem (I was not calling it right using Wine). Saving new files to my Windows partition is working the way I hoped, so yay.My current block is that I can't run all of my Steam games on Linux. I thought everything on Steam ran inside of a Linux VM under the covers, so I can't see why Marbles (for example) only runs on Windows. Time to play more with Wine or look at Play-On-Linux.

@internetarchive I still use MIRC. I even paid for the license long enough ago that when the license format changed, they creator had to send me a new license code because the old one no longer was supported, he was surprised someone who bought it that long ago was still using it.

@BrodieOnLinux I am just a spectator here. I was happy to see actual discussion with concerns raised and explained. It is too bad that some people took this way too far. It is an interesting problem that does need to be solved sometime in the foreseeable future. Hopefully someone can kick Valve into building a 64-bit Steam client for Linux which will help mitigate a large part of the concerns.

@BrodieOnLinux When was the last time you used an X-station to run a graphical desktop? Or did your work using the Common Desktop Environment (CDE)? Heck, even the Windows desktop has changed 9 times since I started using it (Win 3.1, 95, 98SE, ME/2000, XP, Vista/7, 8.1, 10, and 11). I fully expect that the Linux desktop I run today will not be what I use in a year from now, especially with a new LTS coming out next April.

@stux I thought mstdn.social was run by Mastodon gGmbH, the German company that creates and distributes the mastodon software, who also run mastodon.social and mastodon.online (and joinmastodon.org). That was a big oops in my mind on who runs the server.

@BrodieOnLinux I am getting flashbacks to the Microsoft Bob parody that did just that. Click on the calendar, and you got the word processor instead. The clock opened the file manager. Things like that. I may still have a copy of it buried in my back closet along with the other parodies by the same company.

@BrodieOnLinux I read the first 5 chapters of this a good 10-plus years ago online. Good to see that it continued on, although the final chapter (15) and 3 specials were not translated into English. I am going to enjoy reading it again now that I have good experience using Ubuntu. I read it when I was just starting out with Ubuntu 10.04

@internetarchive This reminds me that SpeedRacer.com ran an email server that anyone could sign-up for. I had an account on it for years that I actively used. Unfortunately the company that ran it had to shut down, but gave users a lot of notice so they could move to another email server.

@BrodieOnLinux I need to move my home to a second partition. I made the mistake of using a single partition when I created this system and now keep bumping into problems. Newbie mistake, I had not set-up a new system before I did this one.

@matthew May I ask why you go with the Debian edition and not the main edition? Is it to avoid the link to Ubuntu?

@internetarchive Wow, I was working at Marshalls in the Liberty Tree Mall at this time. I will have to watch the entire video to see if I can spot myself.
