@metalune Apple continues to be great at sales. As an Android user for anti-monoculture reasons, the main considerations are updated OS (not arbitrarily restricted by carrier or manufacturer), <6 in long with 256gb internal storage and decent speed.

@urusan Interesting question! An analog that I think about it proprietary vs free software. Proprietary puts heavy market mechanics to work to prove out demand for features and optimize experience, but then free software can reimplement as the sort of generic version of what only proprietary could do.Here you have an assumption that what we're doing now is prototyping toward a static techscape that can be served by specialized devices and I think that's true for taking care of today's demand.

@kev @Mastodon Related: https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/issues/11910 Seems like a fairly simple mechanic in the CSS. Getting the Ruby to act on it however seems Hard. https://www.cloudhadoop.com/css-check-dark-light-theme/#weekendproject ?

@kev This repo looks great tbh, only 4 PRs and they seem held up for merge conflicts. Maybe this is after a big effort to chew through them?In any case, that you have CI is good so I guess I'd encourage you to create issues in the repo describing the problem(s) you face as maintainer.

@LinuxLounge Hi LL, Just subbed after realizing I had created a tilvids account a while back. Love the videos. Have you thought about delving more into FOSS development?

@kev Doesn't matter how solid the system or history, upgrades are always a 🤞 moment. Thanks for staying updated!

Trying to recruit new devs to FOSS from reddit. Any tips on how to get them to first commit?

@LinuxLegend Yes, the long game! I'm trying to get more devs into a masto fork and what I derive from your suggestion is to try Twitter as a source pool. What makes it hard there is getting through the algorithm.

@metalune mind is kind of blown by this statement because I started out buying CDs. These days I build playlists so think in terms of songs by which to mark months and years.Your rate of a song plus per day is astonishing. How do you keep quality? Do they follow 80/20 rule for artists vs songs?

@atoponce Love the finite field part! Something I'd heard of many times but never understood. At least I'd played around with ECs a bit.

@realcaseyrollins Appears to be an open source messenger. Their comparison makes them look superior for anyone who wants privacy, E2EE, and open source financed through app sales. https://threema.ch/en/messenger-comparisonHaven't tried it yet, but their claims are significant and nice progress for users if true.
