@simon I would double-check any apps that are no longer in the app store that might still be on your old phone.I had a few games that fit into that category that would still run just fine, but would not re-download for idk reasons.

@simon Not enough people who use GitHub Actions know that it comes installed by default. So scripting with `pipx run {cmd}` really takes the edge off.

@simon I don't know that I can tell the difference in your normal voice and your cloned voice. Can you tell the difference?

@simon since most people think hearing their voice sounds weird, does it have a similar effect? I can see this being more or less that to people based on that sensation. 🤔

😭 My favorite, "make any web page a desktop application" app Nativefier is sadly no longer maintained.I had a ton of good years out of it, and after dumping Chrome and Firefox, I find myself with a good replacement. (I don't want to use Safari for other reasons that drive me up a wall)Does anyone know of a good alternative that's as easy as "take a URL and turn it into a macOS desktop app" that ****respects the --->close<--- button**** and other reasonable defaults?https://github.com/nativefier/nativefier/issues/1577

@simon Apple annoys me for stuff like this. The last time I tried to use it, you needed Sonoma, which I haven't migrated to yet. Thanks for the suggestion though.

@simon I'm not a huge fan of Safari so it's no loss. I might revisit after I upgrade over the holidays. Until then, the fluidapp will be fine I'm sure.

@simon @natbat First, happy birthday. 🎂 Second, this is similar to some ideas @jonafato and I have noodled on over the years. It was more or less a co-op model along with some shared services/support.

@simon Saying this as your friend, but it gave me very gatekeeper vibes when I read the first few iterations of it. Knowing you, I know that is not what you would ever intend, but if I didn't know you, I definitely would have thought that was the point. That aside, I struggled with it. I know it's changed a lot since the first version or two, but it wasn't super clear to me what your intention was with it. 🤷

@simon I missed that part and I don't follow him. That might explain, but obviously not justify, why you saw an uptick of negative responses though.

@simon It might be easier to do the opposite. Create a pydantic1 package which either re-namespaces everything, or that pins to `pydantic<2`. The first solution might give you some `from pydantic1 import pydantic` to work with.

@simon nicely done. I was never bent out of shape about it fwiw, but I do hope that it helps for any future "Hacker News re-posts something old like it's new again" which they really, really like to do.

Dropbox’s breach email was a reminder that I hadn’t deleted my Dropbox account yet. I stopped using Dropbox years ago because the app was such a resource hog, and the company was starting to vector into some weird directions. We need a universal standard for deleting old accounts like this. For “secure the supply chain reasons” that aren’t made-up bullshit reasons. https://awscommunity.social/@Quinnypig/112391306456326604

🤷 Say bad things about Tailwind CSS all you want, but I have been doing this for a while, and the framework taught me how to use Flexbox and Grid better than any online tutorial, cutesy game, article, or book I read.I'm not here to tell anyone they should use a CSS framework, but I'm getting tired of seeing people misrepresent Tailwind CSS by using the most absurd examples they can find.

RE: https://mastodon.social/@lobsters/115534391605162502🤔 I'm interested to see where this lands. It's comical how little some of these companies give back to these projects, despite having multi-billion dollar businesses use these tools and languages.
