@Linux I want one SO MUCH! Alas, I am in the USA, and that I'd not in their market range. Yet.

@rms did you mean May species as in something special about the month? Or did you mean "many" species?

@davidrevoy @blueluma @peertube I have been following your work and enjoying it very much, starting from before this AI bubble inflated. Anyone who could make such an accusation is simply ignorant. I have to admit, some of your work actually looks too good to be a human construct: but I know better.

@rms I am unsure how much good this will do when the man in charge, their ultimate boss, thinks that we should just kill everything.

@Linux @Framasoft the one reason I can think of is the uploading item on YouTube. You have the possibility of making some money. If that is your major source of income, that's kind of important, and peertube does not support it. Which in the minds of most people is a good thing, but...

@rms in the first place, I have sent that letter using that site. But in the second place, I seriously doubt how effective it could be when the boss ...has the desire for that data to be available to ICE. But in the third place, didn't Elon Musk's team of hackers already steal all of that data? Do the SSA employees have any control over what they do with that data? Because I think that bird has already flown.

@davidrevoy @momo Personally, I treasure every one of them. They do ring so true, but that is part of what makes them amusing. And brilliant.

@fsf Retired. fixed and shrinking income under this current economy and due to the depredations of this administration. I have contributed, but on a monthly basis is getting harder and harder.

@davidrevoy @creativecommons the only way I have found to deal with those people that gives any satisfaction at all is a scrape trap. Make sure there's a link early on every page, preferably hidden from human view, that links to a looping pseudo-random generator of text and generated images. It must contain several links back into the loop at a new address, so the scraper will scrape total garbage, and then follow the links to scrape additional total garbage forever. If we cannot shoot them and we cannot lock them, we can at least poison the well.

@rms does Congress still retain the power to make that kind of a decision without passing a law which will be challenged in court? Of course. Virtually none of these data centers are significantly different in any basic way from any other data centers, and none of them, to my knowledge, are being installed on federal property, which means the states are going to object. But even before that, every single congressman who has responsibilities to a state that is going to rake in huge tax dollars, because they are allowing a data center to be built in their state, is going to fight this. It looks to me like an uphill battle, and we won't know whether it'll even get started. If it does get started, the restriction might not go into force for a year or more, and by then the data centers will already be built out. Might there be a better way?

@rms I think that makes good sense, actually. All the ones that reported the true conditions in Gaza got shot or bombed.

@rms well, for one, they got away with it. Killing journalists and reporters, doctors, ambulance drivers, nurses, and bombing food kitchens are all very bad things, but they got away with it and without any real penalties. From their point of view, why should they stop and why should they hide what they're doing since no one's going to hold them to account?

@rms I am so glad that we had state governors in the USA and our friends north of the border and around the world willing, able and comfortable pointing this out The CDC has been the gold standard for so long, and it feels wrong to mistrust them, but under this administration there really is no choice. The advice this U.S. government is spreading will kill people. In fact, it already has.

@rms I fear that if Trump fully staffs any commissions, it will be with yes men beholden to him with no expertise in that field, or with a history of profiteering in that field. I don't think that would be an improvement.

@rms to be very clear, when you're speaking about Christians in the United States, you have to say which kind, because there are a majority of the Christians in the United States who do not follow the teachings of Christ and mean something by Christian that is entirely different than what the rest of the world means.

@rms I did send the letter to my representatives in Congress, however I seem to recall that Elon Musk's minions extracted that data and no one knows what they did with it. That would be all the leak needed and all the cover-up required to constitute the crime.

@rms I think it might give them pause if the representatives were accompanied by officers of the law carrying a judicial bench warrant. It should absolutely not be required, but it might be something those ICE officers would understand.

@rms I do believe that many of the U.S. citizens in the U.S.A. discovered that some time ago. I use services mostly in the EU and Scandinavia and my phone service is marketed out of Canada. Or I have the option and can afford it. Everything that I use in terms of software, other than Android itself, is free open source software And, amazingly, for the most part, I spend less money this way and get better results. This is a direction I started moving in 1997.
