#photo #ownstuff #fisherman #boat #BalticSea As numbers of fish in the Baltic Sea dwindle from long overuse, strict quotas on catch on the one hand and subsidies for every fisher taking his boat out of the business on the other hand are put in place, mostly older men clinging to their lifestyle as long as they can are left doing a bit of fishing.

#photo #townscape #Wismar #history #architecture #houses Ran some errands around town this morning and took a few pics on the way. These old houses on Lübsche Straße are quite typical of the way buildings were put up since medieval times in the old town centre, when the length of fassades at the street was taxed. So houses were built narrow and high (with several storeys for storage under the roof for good ventilation of the merchants goods) but long, reaching far into the back yards.
