Great news everyone: @haiku nightlies now have initial support for USB WiFi adapters! (Realtek devices only at present, but more should come later.) Upgrade to hrev55907+ and make sure they're plugged in before booting if you want to try it out.

I finally got an overconfidently negative Hacker News comment about something I did (Xlibe, the Xlib/X11 compatibility layer for Haiku) that I got to fisk. What fun! (https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=31192099)

From extrowerk: screenshots of 802.11ac-mode WiFi working on Haiku with the new drivers I ported from OpenBSD. (He tells me the speedtest server isn't just right around the corner, either :)

Achievement unlocked: fixed a bug in the core logic of @haiku's kernel thread scheduler, which provided a nice 10% performance boost in some benchmarks (and fixed a recent whole-system-hang regression) 😀 https://github.com/haiku/haiku/commit/8dc67def4b11c4f93af85b51ec1e9b2de6973f92

One thing I really miss from Twitter on here is merged notifications. Having a long stream of boosts/favorites/follows instead of just "X people followed you" or the like seems much nicer than individual items for every account. But I guess most prefer the other way?

On the eve of the R1/beta4 release, @haiku gets its best web browser yet: a port of GTKWebKit & GNOME Web (!) running on top of the new Wayland (!!) compatibility layer. Pretty much all the “daily driver” tasks that were hit-and-miss (if at all) with previous browsers work.

@pulkomandy Window resize crash isn't new, it's always been there, it was just intermittent before (when undroidwish had GL disabled, that probably makes the difference.) You can find stack traces on HaikuPorts bugtracker from months ago.It may be easier, if you don't mind digging in to Tk internals, to just fix the issue with stacking order on Xlibe... I can give you pointers of where I got stumped there.

Just merged into the @haiku development branch: a kernel event-queuing facility and then a BSD kqueue(2) implementation on top of it, which will enable much more efficient event handling in libuv (node.js), WINE, and plenty more applications!

@pulkomandy I guess I don't read this as "advertising" Matrix, it's just mentioning we do have a Matrix bridge for users that prefer that to IRC (of which there are a lot, it appears.) I kind of doubt someone would join Matrix purely because of this post?

Just merged into @haiku development branch: fully working TUN support! 🎉 (There’s also TAP in there too, but it may or may not be working just yet.) Connecting via OpenVPN works (but some fiddling with routes is required.)

Last week, I fixed a bunch of bugs in @haiku's profiler. But of course one doesn't simply fix bugs in a profiler without doing some profiling with it. And then I noticed some easily-fixed problems, and then, and then… well, in the end, a compile benchmark is ~23% faster now (!)

Following up on last month’s memory usage reductions for Haiku packagefs (https://mastodon.social/@waddlesplash/113088469227620879):I’ve merged some more changes in this area (another 5-6MB saved here and there)... and then topped off the set with a pretty major memory leak fix related to package support in the BIOS bootloader, which reduces after-boot memory usage by over 100 MB on most systems!

Something new: I’m going to try streaming some @haiku development on Twitch this afternoon, probably around 2:30pm EST (7:30pm GMT). I’ll be looking at userspace ELF symbol resolution in the kernel debugger stack trace generator. Come take a look! https://www.twitch.tv/waddlesplash
