@xerz Like I said it's all software on top. The modem is down near the lowest level, being literally just the point to point physical connection between two computers.

@cybette Ah yes, the only game I have is rollercoaster tycoon and it's been a while since I played it so I don't remember it's behavior. I don't remember any weird behavior but it's possible I just forgot

@xerz Do you mean they're violating the GPL license of someone else's code? A developer is not bound by the terms of their own GPL license they've given out to others (since licenses are just a statement saying "I, the developer, give permission to you to use this code as long as you follow these rules")If they're publishing binaries without publishing their own code, and they say it's GPL software, that's just what we call a "dick move" although not a violation of anything

@xerz I looked at their repo and website, and wow their licensing is a mess. The repo contains both GPL 2 and 3 for some reason, and their graphics as CC BY SA, except they also add a remark on the website, outside the license, that you're not allowed to use them in other software?Anyway I guess what you said would be a violation of those contributors' license. Unless they publish a code dump with every binary release (which would also just be a dick move).

@xerz It's C++ with the Arduino libraries implicitly included, which IDK if that makes it technically different from just C++? Still basically no difference. (however the people who say it's C and not C++ are just wrong)

@xerz I would be fully in favor of joining a NATO without the US. (I don't know the specifics of these protests though)Trump thought he was threatening everyone else by threatening to leave NATO, but I say please, that would make membership way more palatable. I know Finland is on the path to NATO currently, and my only hangups about it are that it means allying with the US (and with Turkey).

@xerz I haven't checked AWS, but I notice some other cloud providers have configurable spending limits, so instead of surprise charges your things just get shut down I guess

@xerz In Finnish and Swedish, the letters Å, Ä, Ö are literally distinct letters from A and O (not considered to be just the same letter with an accent, like in e.g. German), and those letters have been a real pain point occasionally when traveling to elsewhere in Europe.Because sometimes when the name is printed on some tickets for example, their systems just straight up replace letters, and then officials get pissed that the name doesn't match the name on the passport/ID.
